How weird is that. I would much rather have had the results I wanted than to win the week.

    Week 34 (April 20/21)

    Luton 1-2 Brentford

    Sheff Utd 0-2 Burnley

    Wolves 0-2 Arsenal

    Everton 1-1 Nottm Forest

    Aston Villa 2-1 Bournemouth

    Fulham 1-2 Liverpool

    Huddersfield 0-2 Swansea

    Sunderland 2-0 Millwall

    Week 35 (April 23-25)

Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea (highly unlikely as this is Chelsea were impressive against Everton).

    Man Utd 1-0 Sheff Utd

    Brighton 0-2 Man City

I feel the same as both of you. I love the main groove, the sax is a bit cheesy, but those were the times.

In general, I would say No Jacket Required is not my favourite Phil Collins album. I like Inside Out, Long Long Way To Go, Take Me Home, Doesn't Anybody Stay Together Anymore, and We Say Hello Goodbye especially... The rest is, you know, songs that are very often on radio, and they have become "what Phil Collins is about" over the years in people's minds : upbeat 80's songs with overuse of DX7 cheesy sounds, if you know what I mean. I doubt Phil himself is really keen on those "radio hit" songs, judging by what he said in his autobiography.

I prefer the darker, angry Phil (his two first albums...).

Another person who also prefers darker, angry Phil here, but Inside Out is a brilliant song from a mostly brilliant album (despite what Phil himself seems to think of it). 15. Not only that, but I saw him do it.

Some of those are pushing it, although the John Phillips/Bob Dylan one I found interesting. I have both albums and it has never occurred to me that Dylan might have copied Phillips.

I'm fairly certain it was. Didn't one of them make a comment to effect of "we know how to play it" during an interview or promo of some sort? It's a hazy memory so I can't pull up a reference but it gave me the distinct impression they had rehearsed it and until late in the game was a contender for making the setlist. Actually it's one I've heard on the radio and in bars in the US here, so I was convinced they'd swap it in for the US leg of the tour, and specifically avoided the set list discussions after the European leg was over.

Edit: we had a discussion about it before!

Edit 2: I just read through it, and it devolves into a dirgey thread with little to recommend it 😃. Best avoided

As someone who was heavily involved with it it was interesting to read it again. =O

Cracking track on any terms, great opener for an album, great way to announce a new direction and a track where each member contributes a first rate performance. I like it as a single and as an album track and especially so because it is driven by very strong drumming.

Like Backdrifter, I like the lyrics, although for a long time I thought it was ‘there’s a hole in the somewhere’ which I still prefer and would make it even more off the wall. Happy times

Agreed about 'hole in the somewhere'' although it makes no sense, Perfect song. 15.

I just read that, thanks for posting. I notice he gives a shoutout to both Dylan & Morrison (Van) on the new album. Re Finnegan's Wake - I've read it twice.

As to whether or not he should have kept Dire Straits going, I'm just glad I saw them at their peak, and also on the On Every Street tour. I can't say that about any other major band (although I did see Queen on the Works tour).

I am listening to all Phil's albums in succession & have nearly finished NJR. Starting to get less angry, dark & moody, and more insistent use of brass which I know he loves but on NJR it detracts from the songs. Not as many woe is me ballads (yet). The first two albums remain the pinnacle.

Finally, FINALLY a Genesis tribute band - The Cinema Show, which bills itself as the Australian Genesis show. This just popped up in my Facebook feed. Their previous Sydney show was too far away from me but I can do this one. They claim they do Gabriel & Collins stuff as well.

I will just repeat that opinion is not fact, and while I agree that Phil has been unfairly villfied, that is hardly the fault of artists like Sheeran & Bieber. We seem to be getting into another area now.
