I have always loved it. Always. I know he didn't write it but compared with Against All Odds & Separate Lives (both of which I saw him play) it is a model of restraint.
Probably one for UK members, Nicholas Parsons leaves us, aged 96. Actor, comedian, presenter, raconteur, quiz host, and for decades the lynchpin of Just A Minute.
We are huge fans here because my (English) husband has every series of Just A Minute. RIP.
Very good (13). I almost gave it 'outstanding' but I thought that was going too far. You can't argue with that chorus.
Just let it happen.
Turn It On Again, Heathaze and (yes) Misunderstanding which I have always loved. I like Duchess but there is something about it I don't quite get. And while I like Behind The Lines I find the Face Value version punchier.
I love Bob but I wouldn't really call him 'progressive'!
I was supposed to be seeing Randy Newman on February 4 but he had to cancel as he is recovering from an operation. So far the only shows I have are TIm Minchin, Dweezil Zappa & the big one - Steve Hackett in May, and then Australian musician James Reyne in October. It seems to be a quiet year.
Hmm. At least my predictions have improved somewhat but I've been last from the start!

Display MoreAs with Neils Peart and Innes I find myself shedding a few tears at the horrible news that Monty Python's Terry Jones has died. What a crap start to 2020.
Python seemed to connect with the rock music world. Investors in Holy Grail included Genesis and Pink Floyd, and of course George Harrison helped to get Brian up and running, appeared in the Rutles film and became a close friend of Eric Idle.
In a way - indulge me here - Python were sort of The Beatles of comedy. As the Fabs took their 50s rock'n'roll, easy listening and show tunes influences and made something unique and hugely influential, the Pythons all said they were hugely indebted to The Goons but they took that surreal approach and did something that was very much their own and as Graham said had a major ripple effect on comedy and other aspects of culture.
It appeared to be Jones and Cleese that were the two tent poles of Python, opposing poles at that as they often had scathing arguments. Cleese (with Chapman) brought the rigid logical approach that led to sketches involving arguments, shouting and violence whereas Jones (with Palin) was more interested in the weird and surreal approach, which was my preference as a viewer. That's always more the stuff I think back to.
A couple of years back Palin spoke in a heartbreaking interview about Jones's dementia, and broke down in tears during the interview as he described the pain of seeing this sharp inquisitive creative mind being lost.
As with those other losses, at least we have a great legacy of work to still enjoy.
You can watch Palin break down again on the BBC site.
Very upset today. RIP Terry.
Hi FeelitComing. We do happen to based in Melbourne, but you shouldn't hold that against us. There is a plan to come to Sydney. However at present it is more practical to play Adelaide, as it is nearer and easier to arrange for the time being. There is considerable hope for Brisbane, where we have strong support and Sydney might be part of our touring plan if the other shows go well. Stay tuned, and stay supportive....it's all about getting Genesis music LIVE out there. Or you could wait for the real band to reform. March 7th and 8th is part of a long weekend in VIC and we are playing two Lamb shows then.
I support what you're doing. I hope you can come to Sydney eventually. I expect to be visiting Melbourne this year, but not in March.

He tries twice. Head, banging and wall spring to mind. I know someone who has been in this situation, he knew when to call it quits, luckily.
Well, I guess by the end of the song he has called it quits, but at least he did try.
This comes almost four years to the day that my (then) hero (Glenn Frey) died aged 67. Now my husband's hero has died aged 67. I have been getting more & more into Rush recently. Neil had a great deal of personal tragedy, losing his daughter & his first wife in the space of a year. RIP.
I would say it's overrated. It is one of those songs I just can't be bothered with most of the time (But FF, isn't San Jacinto a bit more than a filler? Don't want to go off topic). Satisfactory, no more than that.
Musically it's OK, nothing more, though there are one or 2 interesting moments, but lyrically, this is probably the worst song they ever recorded. If you wrote a play based on the story in this song, the audience would walk out before it was halfway through. Why would the son care or put himself through any of it, having escaped? Laughable, truly laughable. I can only guess they came up with the hook, "No son of mine" while jamming, and felt compelled to make a story to fit.
Seems the TotW is plundering my "don't like" list at present!
I would only say it isn't that easy to just escape your family. There are always lingering feelings of guilt, that you should try & make an effort. The narrator in this song is very conficted about his feelings for his father. He feels he should try & heal the rift. It doesn't work. I think it's very sad & very powerfully delivered.

I love this album with a passion. The first two choices picked themselves i.e. Abacab & Dodo/Lurker. Then it was either No Reply At All or Me & Sarah Jane - I chose the latter.
Australian tribute band? Melbourne tribute band.
Outstanding. I bought the CD single of it before I bought the album, Yes, this is one Genesis album I bought when it was released.
