"I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Very loud in a tiny venue but I'm assuming the Academy is bigger! Some very nice nostalgia."

I saw the show earlier this year at Manchester Ritz, I think I said in another message that it had been 40 years since I last saw SHB and I do like me a bit of Hillage/Giraudy band music 8)

(Was) Lifesigns last friday - Ivory Black's, Glasgow. Great gig by John, Frosty, Jon & Dave. If anyone doesn't know this band then give them a listen, you won't be disappointed!

40 years since I saw a Steve Hillage Band gig....but last Friday at Manchester Ritz was fabulous. So much so that I'm getting a ticket for the Steve Hillage Band in Liverpool, November.

First saw John opening '6 of the Best' at Milton Keynes, liked what I heard. Two years later I'm a postgrad in Glasgow and someone lends me 'One World' & 'Grace & Danger', the rest as they say is history. Saw John multiple times, got all the albums and the special Island CD boxset released a few years back. John is one of my 'go to' listens. As noted above John had a temper and drink issues (amongst other things) but he never failed to entertain and move me. Funnily I was listening to Talk Talk's 'Laughing Stock' yesterday and I said to my wife that I 'get' more out of sad (melancholic, moody) music than I do out of upbeat (happy/ier) and I place quite a bit of John's music in that sad/moody/melancholic bracket.

Worth the trip? Absolutely! I love Todd's music, (I don't want to come across as sounding trite) as I do for all the bands I go to see (including tribute bands). A lot of my favourite artists are knocking on now (Todd is 70, I'm just over a year shy of 60) and each time they tour might be their last so I try and make the effort. Todd played a 28 song show (2 sets) - a real mix of songs from the early/mid part of his career, great band - Bobby Strickland, Jesse Gress, Kasim Sulton, Prairie Prince & Greg Hawkes (the cars), some stories, some jokes and (imo) a great perfomance. The last couple of times that I have seen him have been at the Ritz in Manchester, I think he had backing behind this one as it is combined with his autobiography. But at the end of the day I enjoyed it and I'm happy with that!

Try to see the Pups live if you can - got my ticket for this November in Manchester (The Apollo), they've grown their following since I first saw them in 2012 in a club (Manchester's Band on the Wall) for around 300 people.

Bill Laurance (Snarky Puppy) tomorrow night (Friday) at Stoller Hall, Manchester. Then down to the smoke for Todd Rundgren (Saturday night) at Hammersmith Apollo.

The show was excellent (IMO). Never seen Steve Winwood before and only vaguely aware of his catalogue but I thoroughly enjoyed him and his bands 45 min career spanning set - Spencer Davis Group/Traffic/Blind Faith/Solo. As for the Dan they can do no wrong for me, I will love their music till I shuffle off this mortal coil, Donald Fagen is always a must see for me. Setlist.com has the tunes.

Steely Dan, Thursday 21st Manchester Arena. Looking forward to the gig, Steve Winwood is support, not looking forward to the Arena - I really don't like it.
