I have never, EVER, heard of such a rule. I have seen a lot of concerts over the years. I would be curious to see where you got that information. Are you sure you don't mean as a support act? Even so, the majority of shows I have seen don't have a support, or they don't have to be Australian. As for what he will play, I imagine it will be the same as he has played elsewhere. I will be in the fifth row at the first Sydney show in just under a fortnight.

My understanding is any touring musician must demonstrate "net employment benefit to the Australian entertainment industry" when they perform there. That's why you had a string section joining Genesis on stage, for example, for a couple of songs during the Invisible Touch tour.

Just to point out. Are you folks playing the entire albums or just tracks:?:

I generally make a point of listening to albums in their entirety. If I have to interrupt an album midway through, I will usually pick up from where I left off and continue listening afterwards.

There might be the odd album where I skip a song, and there may be the odd occasion where I just want to hear a couple of songs, but for the most part, if I put on a CD, I'm in for the duration.

I'm still shocked how FGTR is still ranked quite low by fans, despite this being a late 60s album. :?:

    ...

I'm surprised anyone would be shocked by how low it is ranked by most Genesis fans.

FGTR may have been recorded in the late 60s but sounds to me like an album of an earlier, and musically more tame era.

For a Genesis fan, I think it's an interesting curio item and the music conveys a certain innocence that I find endearing — but if we're going to talk about adventurous new artists, interesting music and great albums that came out in the late 60s, I don't think FGTR even comes close to being part of that discussion.

It isn't something I had thought of before, though I have to say I am always intrigued when I read the liner notes and see details about a track that was composed or recorded while he was still in Genesis or working with Mike on sessions for G&TG..

He probably records a lot of stuff for his library music, material he is contracted to produce - some of it is accepted, not all of it, and that probably leaves him with a lot of recorded material that he can either refurbish or release at a later date.

I much prefer this track to the previous one that was released.

This one taps into a couple of different genres that at least sets it apart from some of his recent material and it held my attention which is more than I can say of the other track.

    ...

Sarah McLachlan has highlighted The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway as an influence repeatedly.

    ...

    I didn't know that.

I knew she liked Peter Gabriel's solo work.

In fact, some of the tracks on Fumbling Towards Ecstasy — "Possession" comes to mind, the way she employs her voice and the rhythm section — sound to me like they were inspired by the music on Us or So.

Do you have their Christmas album? I love it!

Yes, in fact it's one of the few albums I can confidently play in mixed company on Christmas Day without my wife making a face or reacting as if I am subjecting our family and guests to the live industrial sounds of King Crimson.

Something about Jethro Tull that appeals to me during the months of November and December. I always play a lot of their music at this time of year, and if I play any music on Christmas Day. it's usually something by them.

Speaking of which, in the last month...

    Jethro Tull

    Bruce Cockburn

    Tim Buckley

    early Fleetwood Mac ('68-72)

Robert Fripp and various related (solo, Sylvain & Fripp, King Crimson, League of Gentlemen, etc)

Facebook groups, I find, provide a convenient means of sharing fleeting information, such as news on an upcoming tour, a newly released recording or someone posting a photo from a concert they went to the other day.

Forums like this, IMO, are better suited for actual conversations that have a bit more volume to them and ones that can go on for days.

Yeah, with a photo page you don’t have all the same problems. People can comment on the photos or like them, but you don’t get strong opinions. I think I did turn off messaging when some crazy guy wouldn’t leave me alone and was basically using it to ask invasive questions.

I'm sorry to hear that. You are perhaps already aware under preferances you can block specific people from messaging you or from even seeing your posts.

As a young listener in my teens listening to Trespass the first few times, I was immediately drawn to the exhilarating power of The Knife.

But it didn’t take long for my focus to be lured by Stagnation which I felt had more depth and was far more intriguing of a track.

To this day, Stagnation is not only my favourite song off Trespass, but easily among my Top 10 of all of Genesis.

I am a member of Genesis - The Movement & Genesis Fans Community. I used to be members of Phil Collins & Peter Gabriel groups until I found that the sole purpose of both groups was to deride the 'opposing' artist. The Gabriel group, sad to say, was particularly virulent in its dislike of Collins.

LOL, there's a segment of that which creeps into any Genesis discussion board unfortunately.

I'm a member of three different Genesis fan sites and one Steve Hackett fan site.

I'm not very active on any of them, to be honest.

Postings from the Movement site pop up more regularly when I'm surfing Facebook than postings from the other three, so invariably, that's the one I'm a little more active on.

Since the last time, it's been a lot of:

    Steve Hackett

    Bob Marley

Eric Clapton (both solo and various bands he's been in)

    Black Sabbath

    Elton John
