Cinema Show.
I could listen to it every day and never get sick of it.

I was at Birmingham on that tour. We knew when we saw those lights it was a game changer. They were breathtaking for that era, and would probably still look great now.

The Roland Orzabal was fascinating for me, as I'm a huge TFF fan. Some really interesting insights in that one. In fact most of the series has been great listening. I could have Nile Rodgers' stories on a 24 hours a day loop! The guy is an absolute legend.
Somewhat disappointingly, I found Steve's interview a bit dull. Maybe I was in the wrong mood at the time.

This is why, maybe, I'm a little disappointed - but very little...- by the current Fading Lights/Cinema Show transition. I would have liked a smoother one, even if the way they play it makes sense ("Remember...").
Yes. It's pretty clunky. I can't believe they couldn't have come up with something a little more imaginative.

Looks like Duchess has been replaced by Misunderstanding …
Ouch. Each to their own and that, but Duchess was my highlight of the show.

I think if the album lost the two songs that are currently polling last, it would have been a good bit better.
I think I voted for Never a Time!
I love it. I think it's a lovely, touching song, and I love Phil's vocals. I'm amazed I seem to be the only one who rates it highly.
It wouldn't get higher than 3rd for me, because 1 and 2 are a no-brainer for me. But there you go. Someone likes it.

Re the most recent 2 posts, I completely agree about the emotional element (and all the other 'in-person' factors Dr. John mentions). It's a huge factor for me. While I don't associate Genesis music with any specific tough times it helped me through, it's nevertheless ingrained in me in that way your absolute favourite music can be, and has been for nearly 50 years. That aspect can and must never be dismissed. This music is a part of me and while of course I'll always have it on hand to listen to, there's that whole other dimension of getting to see them play right there in front of you. Seeing as this is the final time they'll do that I have to see them, and I do it with full appreciation of the necessary differences between this and previous live outings.
Absolutely nails it for me.
This is my absolute favourite music in the world, and has been for about 40 years.
It means so much to me, the band means so much to me, that watching them play, warts and all, is something to treasure forever.

Ooh. Very interesting. Anyone here planning on going to the Derby show?
-
Unbelievably, today is the 39th anniversary of that amazing night. I was 16! It seems impossible, but there you go.
Thankfully we have the bootlegs to remind us what it sounded like.

Finally, I can check the forums again! I have been avoiding spoilers for the past 2 weeks.
The show was exactly what I expected, other than a somewhat safer set list than I had hoped for, but that's a small point for me.
In terms of the band, we all know about Phil and his capabilities at this point. I couldn't care less that he can't sing like he used to and can't drum at all.
Seeing those guys on stage again was just such a thrill for me. They've been hugely important a part of my life since 1980 and in the end, I didn't greatly care what they played.
In all honesty, a bit more old stuff would have been nice, but I'm not going to complain. For me, Duchess was the highlight, along with Mama, IKWIL, and the acoustic set.
It was a great atmosphere on the saturday, there was a lot of love in the room, and I thought that Phil looked like he was enjoying it.
Anyway. Hope you all enjoyed it. To paraphrase, we'll never see the likes of them again

I rarely like that instrument except in a few rare cases. This sounds like a ridiculous idea. I'm reminded of his W&W tour in which Inside & Out, to which I'd been most looking forward, was ruined by a stupid tootling flute solo during the instrumental passage. It was one of a number of things about that show that made me resolve to not bother with any more of his Genesis tours.
There were also some "embellishments" at the end of Supper's Ready, and the middle of Los Endos, which I didn't need either.
-
Was this the same version they did during the last tour (performing Selling England)?
Sorry, I can't help because I've never seen SH solo before (I'm ashamed to admit...).
It was very faithful to the original though.
-
Mozo having opened your spoiler, I don't think I've ever seen the word "spoiler" used so appropriately. I mean... WHAT?????
Haha, I know. I wish I was joking. It really wasn't what I expected (or wanted). He omitted the middle keyboard section, and his own lovely solo parts. No idea what he was thinking.
If there was a single person watching who thought "the seconds out version is all very well, but THIS is what it should sound like", I'd be very surprised.
-
and, by the way, The Musical Box was the full version, not only the end section
I'm glad I didn't see your post before I saw him last night, as I really wasn't expecting the full version. It's never been one of my favourite Gabriel era songs, but the version last night was brilliant.
I really could do without the funky IKWIL featuring the sax solo though...

It's a matter of weeks away now.
I'm actually starting to believe that this may actually happen...to the extent I'm avoiding the setlist discussion thread with all the potential spoilers
-
You'd almost want one of those poll type thingies
We need a poll to decide whether we should have a poll.
-
It's amazing how many different answers we've had to this question!
I haven't checked but most openers have had a mention one way or another. I suspect there aren't many bands with so many releases that would create such different opinions amongst fans. (Based on pure speculation, not empirical research).

At this stage I'd take a 2 hour version of Me and Virgil, as long as the show goes ahead.
