Hadn't heard this one for 30+ years. After one listen, I give it a nine. I definitely prefer the second half of the song to the first, but it never really catches fire for me.

Was the full Lamb concert ever filmed? I would love to see a blu ray of the entire stage performance, with all the effects, screens and costumes etc.
According to the band, no.
-
I don't think it was ever released as a single in the US.
Very pleasant pop song, I gave it a 13.

Looks like wrong song is linked in Christian's post
Am I the only one seeing a link to "It's Gonna Get Better" on YouTube in Christian's original post? Rather than a link to "You Might Recall"?

You're always teasing me.
My apologies.

Stop sowing s*** everywhere
Please explain to me how I'm sowing s***. I'm truly baffled here. What in my post so offended you? The fact that I don't rate all Genesis songs as a 15? That they're my favorite band? Held me out here, please.
-
Well, you walked right into that one then, didn't you?
I would wager that absolutely everyone on this forum, when asked about their favourite musical act, would agree that none of them has ever managed a roster of perfect tracks, without fail. I, for example, rate the Moody Blues as my favourite band, and, like most fans of them, consider the first 7 Hayward/Lodge era albums to be their best. I'd even go so far as to say that those 7 are the finest run of seven consecutive albums by any act, anywhere, ever. So I'm a bit biased! BUT even I would acknowledge that there are a handful of tracks on those 7 albums that don't quite cut the mustard, indeed, there are 3 consecutive tracks on "On The Threshold...." that I could live without (Send me no wine/To Share our love/So deep within you).
So, by admitting you would rate ALL of Phil's solo work as a 15, you merely highlight the fact that you are a unwavering sycophant, with no meaningful grasp of good or not-so-good in his work. And, let's be honest, there are a few turkeys in there, even his realistically connected fans would acknowledge that.
To put it another way: "When everything's amazing, nothing's amazing"!
Well said. Genesis is my favorite band, and there's maybe 10-20 songs in their catalog that I'd give a 15.

This can really become interesting - should Peter Gabriel be involved! I hope he is.
To me, it doesn't matter if any of the Genesis members are involved. I'm just hoping that the end result will allow us to hear the album the way the band intended. And, that we can actually hear the individual instruments.
Just not sure how the band's involvement would ultimately make any difference.

15 Points!!!!
Just curious….are there any Phil Collins songs that you don’t rate as 15?
-
I bought this when it first came out. Played it once. Saw no reason to ever listen again.
Perhaps I should give it another chance?

It's hard for me to pick favorites, as WCD is my favorite album-partly cos it sounds so different from anything else they've ever done.
It's hard for me to pick favorites, but for the exact opposite reason as you. I've tried (including very recently), but just can't get into this album, at all. Definitely the only Genesis album I can say that about.
I guess it would be
No Son of Mine
Jesus, He Knows Me
Dreaming Like You Sleep
But, none of those would be in my top 100 Genesis songs.

That's my understanding too. The style is very TB.
I do like the point by Micklemus that it contrasts starkly with the jagged futurescape of Watcher. It illustrates one of the things I love about them, the variation in their work.
The first side of Foxtrot alternates the futuristic Watcher of the Skies and Get 'Em Out By Friday with the almost medieval topics of Time Table and Can-Utility and the Coastliners
-
It’s OK but a bit cringe for me. Definitely bottom of the list of Foxtrot tracks. For me it has a strange olde worlde vibe and feels like it could have been played on a harpsichord. Lyrically this wasn’t one of Peter’s finest moments.
I think it's a Tony Banks lyric.
I really like the song. It's not an epic like a lot of their early songs, but I feel like it's really well executed for what it is. Love the countermelody during the instrumental. Fairly simple and straight forward, but effective.

Is there Mellotron choir on Afterglow? The main vocal effects at the end are Phil, assembled in the same way as the Voice of Necam by Steve Hackett, Steve's idea to use the computerised faders on the Neve of Croydon Computer Assisted Mixdown (NECAM!) as an instrument.
I guess I was thinking specifically of the Seconds Out version. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure it’s mellotron.
-
Great thread. I think people have already hit on just about all of my favorite Tony moments. I'd like to add the mellotron choir in Afterglow.
Even on FGTR, there are some incredibly catchy piano phrases.
Like everybody has mentioned, no improvisation. That's why I've always thought of Tony as a composer, rather than a songwriter.

I'm not much of a Mike + the Mechanics fan, especially anything after Beggar on a Beach of Gold.
I liked this more than I thought I would. I give it a 9.

In fact Genesis recorded in '91 enough songs to make 2 albums the length of We Can't Dance. It is known that We Can't Dance 2 is kept within The Farm's vaults. What is more, it was considered at the time the possibility of releasing it as a follow-up afterwards.
This is the first I’ve ever heard of this. Source?

Way of the World is another perfect song and it was right to feature Since I Lost You (it is a very strong song, but it's like comparing a giant with two huge monster giants like Way of the World and On the Shoreline) on We Can't Dance. What I wonder why it was not the same for On the Shoreline.
Can somebody help me with this. I've looked at it several times, and I can't figure out what the poster is trying to say.
