Yes, I'm certain the 'far away, away' bit in Fading Lights, is a callback to Ripples, with the 'sail away, away'.

At least they're doing the beginning of "Fading Lights", which does have a semi-callback to ATrick Of The Tail's "Ripples". So that album is very very briefly represented (barely).
Also, Phil was hardly the only one to make any mistakes in Philly.
Check out about 2:50 for this debacle:
95% is high. If it wasn't for the money. Tony would cancel the tour now. I do not know of any band that goes out and tours and is not 100%.
Guesssing you haven't been to many concerts in the last 20 years, especially by artists who were big in the 60's, 70's and 80's and are still touring.
Go check out Paul McCartney and let's compare his latter day live vocals to Phil's.
"For the most part" is not acceptable to me. Bands have canceled shows in the middle of the concert for quality problems less than Phil's. They should have hired Gary O'Toole to fill in.
Sounds like you'd be better off seeing a cover band. Me, I'm there to see Genesis.
For me, Phil sounded great for 95% of the time in Philly. That's still a solid A. If you expect absolute perfection from a (nearly) 71 year old man, then I just don't know what to tell you. Stay home and play your records. Have a good one!
No doubt it’s still there. I think after the Felt Forum it was the Paramount Theater.
Maybe there was another name change in there somewhere else and I have no doubt knowing Jim Dolan (the MSG and teams ass owner) the naming of it changes with who’ll pay the most for naming rights.
Sucks because it was the Felt Forum for a long time back in the day.
Yeah, it's had a few different names over the years:
Felt Forum 1968-1989
Paramount Theater 1991-1997
The Theater at Madison Square Garden 1997-2007
Wamu Theater 2007-2009
The Theater at Madison Square Garden (again) 2009-2018
Hulu Theater At Madison Square Garden 2018-present
There used to be a smaller venue inside MSG downstairs called the Felt Forum where they had played before..:
That smaller venue is actually still there, just with a different name: "Hulu Theater At Madison Square Garden".
I saw the Friday show. Very disappointed in Phil. They need to drop Turn it on again. Phil could not sing it. He was very weak on Domino. His son was beyond expectations. Tony, Mike, and Daryl were the typical top notch musicians. I was apprehensive about an acoustic Lamb, but it was very good.
Surprised to hear you say that.
I went both nights. I thought Phil sounded pretty strong for the most part. A couple of brief wobbly moments, but overall I thought he did a very good job.
Here's some (incomplete) videos I shot from the December 3 show.

Tonight Tonight Tonight:
Firth Of Fifth:
Dancing With The Moonlit Knight:

Fading Lights / Cinema Show / Afterglow:
Despite my earlier proclamation that I was going to skip the first show and save it for the second, I went tonight anyway. I guess I just couldn't be in town with Genesis playing and NOT be there. Found a desperate seller just before showtime and paid $80 for a pair of nosebleeds about as far from the stage as you can get. But in retrospect that is fine. After tomorrow, I will have seen the show from two very different perspectives.
I'm flying up to Philly in a few hours. But I'm only going to Friday's show, not tonight.
I have great, expensive seats for the 2nd show. I've been very tempted to also try and pick up some cheap seats for the 1st show tonight, and see both shows.
But I've decided I'm just going to Friday only.
Saw a tweet from a guy who had tickets for yesterday's show but refused to get vaccinated and preferred to miss the show and waste away $600... I'll refrain from commenting this...
I'll comment. This guy is a raging imbecile. When he searched tickets for this show, the very first thing that popped up:
You literally MUST check that box in order to complete purchase. So screw him and his whiny rant about wasting his money.
They lost a lot of spectators around me when they played "Fading Lights" and "Duchess": people started checking out their phones, got up to get beers, etc. Quite a pity!
I'm very excited to have the seats that I do for my upcoming Philadelphia show.
Front row of the lower level, right near the stage. No heads blocking me, slightly elevated above the floor level.
And I'll be completely oblivious to any of the audience behind me. No distractions!
They were disappointed Phil and his band didn't play In the Air Tonight.
More likely were only there to hear Sussudio.
Great post... thanks for sharing that.
Perhaps that article was originally written in another language, and then some of the information got lost in translation. It happens.
