What a huge shame

Just watched the Newcastle show and Phil has improved a lot since I saw them on the first night of Manchester. Was warming to see. Really weighing up a London show... :-/
-
I'm surprised they're doing as many dates as they are tbh.
In the 2007 documentary Phil says "you can do more than 20 shows if you want but you'll be doing them without a singer"...
But in the recent documentary, Tony or Mike says something like "no doubt our manager is working on other dates".
From accounts posted here, Phil's voice appears to be improving with the tour. And I dare say that has bolstered his confidence.
But I can't see them doing much more if any. I really don't think Phil is in a good way in himself. I think he's doing this tour primarily for his son.
Quite what Phil will do with himself after this is anyones guess. I don't think it's going to be healthy for him.
A shame they didn't use lockdown to write just one new song... a swan-song. Floyd did Louder Than Words and whilst it didn't change the world, it didn't hurt either.
Enjoy it while it lasts, the show was great and I'm still debating going to London to see them again!

I second that 'what?'
Third!

Back 2007 I was taken aback and thrilled that they did Ripples. I must admit I had a slight hope that they would do Entangled. Genesis are what they are. Duchess though was a highlight . What a sound! Great night .
Duchess was great. No Son always sounds amazing too. Perfect blend of prog-pop.

Show was 1hr 15mins late owing to generator failure. But they played the full show finishing around 11:30. The crowd were very appreciative as there was some concern at the beginning.
Band sounded great as you’d expect. PC was on good form and playing the showman. Definitely struggling at times but in a live context fine (Would be different on a live recording I think). The key changes didn’t bother me as much as I thought they would.
The set list was the same as Birmingham as you’d expect but for me it really was very 80s/90s heavy. The few 70s tracks weren’t enough to re-balance it for me. One or two surprises like Dance on a Volcano or One For The Vine would’ve been nice. Especially with the lack of Los Endos.
Would love to have seen some of those 70s shows but we take what we can get. The atmosphere was great. -
Show 40 mins late so far…. We have been told “technical problems” by an MC…

if you think the image you want to use is not problematic regarding copyrights, simply use the attachment option (in the bottom menu line when replying). You then have the option to insert the graphic / picture as an attachment or the full image in the posting.
thanks, got it now

I’m there… even the hotel is playing Genesis
(that image link didnt work, how do I add images?) -
Thinking about it, it would be weird to end with Los Endos for this tour as Phil would just be sat there for 6 minutes. Not really the same without the drum duet either. All the more reason for Squonk!

Carpet Crawlers is good, but Fading Lights would be a better ending in my opinion.
Never understood Carpet Crawlers as a finale, but maybe when you're there it works.

indeed, I have added "excerpt" to avoid confusion.
And welcome to the forum Gary Best and siderealxxx
Thanks, well better than not at all!

A little summary about the tour start yesterday
Wait they played 'In That Quiet Earth'? I didn't see mention of this before. That's a cracking track! Was it the full piece leading into Afterglow or shortened?

1st post, Generation X, Genesis live virgin! Going to Manchester on Friday.
The show looks great as you’d expect and it seems Phil is performing better than feared. Can’t wait to feel the atmosphere in the room.
Must admit I’m not enamoured with the set list. Seems to miss most of the ‘middle’ period (74-78), not even Los Endos! Had hoped for at leaste one curve ball like One For The Vine. Also not a fan of acoustic sets in stadium shows. I think acoustic sets are better in small/intimate environments.
Having seen Floyd (94) and Yes (countless) I’ll take what I can get though! Will report back on Manchester show.
