Richard Macphail used to be the road manager in the early days of Genesis and the sessions for the Trespass album took place on the property of his parents: In the legendary Cottage: He became more and more part of band, but after Foxtrot he decided to leave the band to focus on other things. A last farewell can be found on the backside of the Genesis Live LP cover. Richard moved on, but actually he appeared every now and then in the Genesis family until the late seventies. But even after 1980 he has never lost contact with his old mates and they stayed friends to this day.
Richard Macphail will publish a book in a few weeks, called My Book Of Genesis. Richard Macphail told us a few things about it: "It was intended to be an account of my days with the band but sort of spread to be a bit more of an autobiography. I wrote the first draft with Chris Charlesworth, who used to write for the Melody Maker. Two edits later and it was ready to go off to the graphic designer. I am waiting to receive a Foreword from Peter [Gabriel] (!). There will be quite a few pictures (some new) and some of the old favourites and I hope to launch it in late October / early November. "
In 2005, Richard Macphail was the special guest at the German Fan Convention, the Early Years Event. A report about this event is available at this link. The on stage interview from that event is only available in German (click here) but funny enough, someone in the audience asked Richard whether or not he would like to release a book about his days with Genesis. Back in 2005, it didn't seem to be a priority for him, so we are pleased we can spread the news that a book is coming soon now.
