20 years of 'it': Michael Otterbach

In his essay Michael Otterbach explains how the website and the forum are like mass and how a fanclub may be conducive to relationships.

Michael Otterbach

I have been active on the IT forum for almost four and three-quarter years now and have written down the mental outpourings of my sick brain over 3000 times. I admit, that scares me a little. Don't I have anything better to do than spend so much time on this forum? Well, it really got to me badly; you could definitely call it an addiction. Apart from absolutely exceptional situations, such as last week's study trip to Prague, not a single day goes by without me checking in on the forum at least once. But why is that?

Well, the main reason is probably the high importance of music in my life in general. And in this regard, Genesis has been my unbeatable number one for over twenty years.

For a Genesis fanatic, there's no better place than the German Genesis Fan Club to find out everything that's happening in the Genesis universe in no time at all. Fact.

Added to this are highlights such as the It events, which are invaluable and priceless for a Genesis fanatic. I've been there twice so far. The Nursery Cryme event with TMB in Duisburg and the Hackett event in Remscheid. Both were luxurious experiences that fans can only dream of, but thanks to the fan club, they don't have to. And I'm as happy as a clam about the Lamb event. Bernd, Peter, Helmut, and Christian, I bow in awe in recognition of your work.

What else does the fan club offer me? You are surrounded by nice people with whom you can share your great passion for Genesis, which is often quite limited in everyday life.

For me, going to church every evening in the forum (usually paired with the enjoyment of half a cubic decimeter of hop tea) means switching off, relaxing, and feeling good. Added to this is the feeling of familiarity with many other users, which has developed over time and has something of a family character.

Oh yes… I would also like to mention the "Never Ending Story," which allows me to live out the damaged side of my personality to my heart's content, alongside my great passion 😉

I would also like to give a big shout-out to the moderators, who are largely responsible for the exceptionally pleasant atmosphere here.

The forum has become a really important part of my life, and I would find it incredibly difficult to do without it. So… keep up the good work!!!…

with love, Little Nick…

P.S.: I would like to add a little warning:

Regular visits to the forum can have a significant negative impact on your relationship life. I can say with certainty that without the forum, I could have delayed the end of my last relationship by several weeks… but at the same time, I'm looking forward to my wedding next week 😉
