Genesis live in London 2000 – the MMF-Award Show

On 21 September 2000, Genesis played a short set during the MMF Award Show in honour of their manager Tony Smith.

The big Genesis reunion has not (yet?) taken place, but …

… at least it was a sign of life again. On the occasion of the presentation of the Peter Grant Award 2000 to Genesis manager Tony Smith, Messrs Banks, Collins, Rutherford and Stuermer played live in front of a larger audience for the first time since 1993. They had already appeared together on stage in 1999 when Phil celebrated his wedding, but that was a purely private event.

The short performance on 21 September 2000 at the London Hilton Hotel was more or less ‘unplugged’. The concert consisted of Turn It On Again, Invisible Touch, Follow You Follow Me and I Can’t Dance. Mike Rutherford and Daryl Stuermer both played acoustic guitar, Tony Banks sat at the keyboard and Phil Collins sang and played various percussion instruments. Parts of the show were reportedly also broadcast on British television.

Peter Gabriel was also among the visitors to the event. He also posed for a photo session with the Genesis line-up of the evening and Tony Smith (see pictures).

Although no (former) band member said anything specific about a possible upcoming Genesis reunion in interviews before or after the gig, it certainly added fuel to the rumour mill, and we will have to wait and see what the future brings…
