GNC Editorial 01/2025: Online for 25 years!

On 1 March, our German website will have been online for 25 years. Reason enough to look back from one perspective or another.

Yes, it's hard to believe. The German Genesis Fanclub it has been on the worldwide web for 25 years!

Twenty-five years ago, there was a 'technical' break in the German Genesis fan club. We ventured to switch our publication from the venerable it magazines to a website. Of course, we are driven by technical progress, and despite our love for the magazine, the effort involved was always enormous.

But every beginning is difficult, and establishing the website was no exception. Even the launch had to be postponed. It finally went live on 1 March 2000. And between version 1, which went online back then, and our still new current site, a lot has happened… a lot!

Yet another silver jubilee

We have now been online for 25 years – a few keywords: members' area, free access, hedge page, UP microsite, news area, phpbb forum, English website, an it-blog, visitor records, our own server, various relaunches, photo galleries, vBulletin forum, song of the week, album league, song league, newsletter systems, graphic sizes, social media, Christmas quiz, Christmas prediction game, Woltlab forum, recording compendiums, WordPress – and that's just a selection.

In addition to a few ongoing projects that are progressing but not yet complete (album of the month, tour database), there has recently been a veritable flood of improvements. Around 150 articles have been given new graphics by Helmut. We have recently retrieved some of them from the archive and put them online.

New articles to celebrate

We tell the complete history of the website in an article that we have now updated for the anniversary. In another article, fan club founder and print advocate Helmut Janisch looks back on 25 years of the website and its development in a personal statement. And you are welcome to reminisce about curiosities, highlights and disappointments of the last 25 years in this thread in the forum. You may also find inspiration in the 'Fan Club' category of the website, which we have tidied up and made more complete for the anniversary. You may also want to take a closer look at the it events section…

We would like to thank the many authors who have provided us with reviews, specials and, in some cases, interviews over the years. You have made a huge contribution to our website becoming the go-to place for Genesis fans worldwide!

And even after 25 years, we can say: we still have a lot to do…
