Merry Christmas … and Thank You!

The Genesis News Com team wishes everybody some peaceful Christmas days. We also would like to thank you for your continued interest in our website.

Genesis may no longer be, but their legacy is still alive and several members of the band are still active and release music or tour the world. The past year has been an interesting one again and we are happy you still show a lot of interest in what we do here with the website and our Genesis online Forum.

There was of course the boxset that was delayed a couple of times. But in September, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway finally got its boxset release, including a brand new ATMOS mix of the album.

Peter Gabriel was involved, but he also had at least two further recording sessions at Real World Studios for what will become his new album, which he wants to call o/i and it may come out in 2026. Two live albums were released in digital format this year (In The Big Room and Live At WOMAD 1982). And Peter kept releasing stuff in his Full Moon Club on Bandcamp. Check out our overview article for details.

Tony Banks was also involved in creating the Lamb Atmos mix and he also appeared on stage at Trading Boundaries in November. But "only" for a stage interview with Chris Welch. A transcript of that interview will appear on our website shortly!

Mike Rutherford broke his hip in spring – and only a few weeks later he toured Europe with Mike + The Mechanics. The band also performed new songs and Mike wants to write and record more. Find out more in our interview with Mike Rutherford, Tim Howar and members of the crew, conducted in Leipzig and Berlin earlier this year.

Ray Wilson was touring again, mainly in Poland and Germany. But occasionally he also shows up in the Netherlands, in France and elsewhere. Nevertheless, he hasn't been in the UK for a long time and never in the states. But Ray has released a couple of new tracks in digital format, find out more about this here.

Anthony Phillips has been re-issuing his albums via Esoteric and Cherry Red over the last ten years. This year, the series concluded with new expanded editions of Sail The World and Radio Clyde.

Steve Hackett looks back on a busy year as well. His celebration of some Lamb tracks came to an end in North America recently, but furthermore, major changes in his band were announced: Roger King "retired" and Craig Blundell has also left his live band. Lalle Larsson and Felix Lehrmann will replace them. In January, Steve released the live album Live Magic At Trading Boundaries and later this year, The Lamb Stand Up Live At The Royal Albert Hall hit the stores. And Steve and Steve (Rothery) finally finished their collaboration album! The album will released next year.

And Phil Collins? After his retirement in 2022, he made some tiny appearances in public. He showed up at the Mike + The Mechanics show in London and two times during a football match of his youngest son Matthew. He wasn't available for the Lamb boxset promotion (he recovered from a knee surgery), but his legendary album No Jacket Required got the Atmos treatment as well (mixed by a certain Steven Wilson) and also came out as a Fully Tailored vinyl boxset.

So, we had a lot to report about. But we also offered some specials, such as the Steve Hackett Recording Compendium, which consists of 11 parts (so far) and a new part appeared on every 12th of the month since February. And you showed great interest in our special about Genesis In Brazil 1977, which was fun to put together. We also looked back at Phil Collins' guest appearance during a The Musical Box show in Geneva 20 years ago. Then there was a special about Phil Collins and Miami Vice (his guest appearance in that show also celebrated its 40th anniversary this year!).

This is just an overview, there was much more to discover this year, which is also covered on our website. Again, we would like to thank you for your interest and support, your feedback and participation. Without you, this simply would not make any sense.

Thank you and Merry Christmas (in case you celebrate)

Christian, Helmut, Peter and Bernd (Genesis News Com editors)

Merry Christmas!
