Peter Gabriel – o\i: Intro
After only three years, Peter Gabriel is releasing a new album. o\i will also be made available over 12 full moons. We will accompany the dance once again.
Throughout 2025, reports of recording sessions for a new Gabriel album began to surface. PG even announced the title, but no release date was mentioned. Tony Levin simply believed that an album was coming, and Gabriel himself laconically remarked that it was "looking good" for a 2026 release.
So it comes as all the more surprising that, at the beginning of 2026, the release machinery is actually being set in motion again – at full speed and under the same conditions as in 2023 with i/o. The release is entirely occupied by a carbon copy of the procedure. Well, not entirely… Some small indomitable details still hold out.
First of all, one new track will be released again on every full moon of the year – again in the "Bright-Side Mix" or the "Dark-Side Mix". The other mix will be available again on the new moon. Once again, not only the two main mixes but also additional versions can be obtained via the subscription on Bandcamp. And a work of art will again be assigned to each track. In addition, the album will again have 12 tracks, even though the year once again has 13 full moons. And finally, at the end of the year, the complete album will be released on physical media.
What is different this time is that – at least initially – there will be no Dolby Atmos "In-Side Mix". And the two main mixes will differ more from each other this time – not least because it has often been said that they are always so similar on i/o. The differences will also be noticeable in the lengths of the mixes this time. The two mixers – once again Mark 'Spike' Stent and Tchad Blake – were given differently compiled recording material, which they were then asked to work with in their own way.
Gabriel notes that Spike always builds great landscapes that are very focused, while Tchad likes things to have time to develop. With him, it's always a "rough ride at the amusement park" and it's never clear where exactly you're going.
This promises to be exciting once again. And not exactly the same as three years ago.
Here in this Track by Track Special, we've gathered all the information about the songs from o\i.
Song 01: "Been Undone"
In January 2026, Gabriel surprisingly unveiled the first song from the new album. We have compiled everything you need to know about its mixes.

o\i: The Art
Peter Gabriel has once again paired each track on the album with a work of art. Let's take a closer look at them and the artists behind them.

o\i – a short making-of
In December 2023, the full moon releases for the i/o album came to an end on Gabriel's Bandcamp subscription. It was announced that there would be a break, which would be filled with the release of archive material, before continuing with the release of new music in spring 2024.
Well, we now know that this interim period spanned the entire years of 2024 and 2025. A number of old favorites, which had already found their way to fans in various ways, were made available once again, and some unknown rarities were also offered. And there were two complete live albums with recordings from 2003 and 1982, respectively.
Now, finally, this phase is coming to an end. The Bandcamp subscription, which was originally introduced for the release of brand-new music and accompanying extras, is to fulfill this purpose once again.
There will be 12 tracks released in total. Since the year has 13 full moons, and the last one is on December 24, it will be interesting to see how this additional release date will be filled. We will know in a year's time.
As a recap of the making of o\i, here are the most significant milestones:
January 2024
After the release of i/o, there are indications that some tracks that were not included on the album could appear on the follow-up:
• What Lies Ahead is played during the i/o Tour in 2023.
• Lost And Found is listed in an article in 'Uncut' magazine in early 2023, but there is also speculation that the mention was simply an error.
• Rock Paper Scissors is said to be a finished song that was rehearsed in 2016 for the tour of the same name with Sting.
• Radio Everyone PG produced jingles for the radio station of the same name; screenshots from his studio later show that a song is being worked on for it.
• Put The Bucket Down is registered to Gabriel with a rights management company.
• Show Yourself (= Why Don't You Show Yourself) is a finished song that was already played on the Back To Front Tour; PG himself mentioned that it could be included on the follow-up to i/o.
• The Veil is a finished song for the film Snowden; PG himself mentioned that it could be included on the follow-up to i/o.
In general, statements by Gabriel and David Rhodes suggest that there could be 4 to 8 songs left over from the sessions for i/o.
There are no further indications of a new album in the course of 2024.
January 2025
David Rhodes says that they recorded six or seven new tunes with Peter and Manu in January.

A photograph corroborates Rhodes' statement – it shows Gabriel, Katché, Levin, and Rhodes at Real World Studio.
February 2025
As part of the 'Mojo' Genesis Special, Peter Gabriel reveals that he is working on the follow-up to i/o, which will be called o/i.
June 2025
PG hints that new music will be released in 2026.
October 2025
The Times reports on the press conference for the Lamb box set. With regard to o/i and its release next year Peter says that things are "going well".
Tony Banks says he gets muddled with the album titles.
Peter: "You only get two letters to remember."
Tony: "I know. That's the problem."
November 2025
Tony Levin says in an interview: "I just got back from recording more wonderful songs of his. … He has a lot of very nice material, pretty close to done."
Tony doesn't know anything about an album release, but speculates that there will be an album "before too long". He also says that, as far as he knows, there are no plans for a tour in 2026.
The recordings in question apparently took place in October.

24 Dezember 2025
Peter Gabriel posts a picture on social media as a Christmas greeting, which is clearly a graphic variation of the title o\i.
For the first time, it becomes clear that o\i is intended to be a complete mirror image of its predecessor's title and that a backslash will be used in the spelling.
31 Dezember 2025
A post from Gabriel appears on facebook:
"Look Up !
Back again
The moon is almost full
Happy New Oi !"
2 Januar 2026
Throughout the day, various reports are made announcing the release-canon of o/i. In the accompanying video for Been Undone, Peter says: "I was tempted to delay again. I am glad I didn't."
