RayVent – Gimmicks

Every event has its own gimmicks and visual recognition value. With RayVent, the connection to Scotland was obvious.

While preparing for RayVent, we came up with a variety of ideas for how we wanted to design RayVent. Due to time constraints, the first designs we completed were the tickets and a poster used to promote the event online. You can see the poster on the overview page. In fact, it was never printed, but only used for online promotion.

Tickets

The tickets were designed in a similar style and ultimately produced with borderless lamination. There were different tickets for each day. Since Sunday was the first scheduled RayVent date and Saturday was the additional show, Sunday became "RAY DAY I" and Saturday became "RAY DAY II." Approximately 90 tickets went on sale each day.

The RayVent Programme

As is customary for all fan club events, there was also a small program for RayVent, consisting of four A5 pages. The program design is based on a map of Ray's birthplace, Dumfrees in Scotland. The credits still list Ray, Irvin, and Amanda Lyon. This is because at the time of printing, it was not yet known that Steve Wilson would complete the acoustic trio instead of Amanda Lyon. Interestingly, the photo we used later became the basis for Ray Wilson's Live 2CD and his live T-shirt, which was designed by club member and RayVent crew member Martin Timmerbeil. You can enlarge each page by clicking on the following images.

Pass order

Every club day, we design a few passes based on Genesis shows. These passes are usually a combination of different Genesis motifs and are just a visual gimmick on normal club days. RayVent was the first event of its kind in every respect, thanks to Ray's concert. This time, there were also passes, and we came up with something completely different for the design. Ray Wilson comes from Scotland, which is known for being the home of whisky. So we used whisky labels as a template for our RayVent passes. By clicking on the individual passes, you can see a larger image including the original whisky label template.

Event-Shirts

Last but not least, we have produced a limited edition RayVent T-shirt, which features the it logo on the sleeve in addition to the chest design. You can find more photos in the picture gallery. Ray wore this T-shirt during his performances. In the picture on the left, you can see the crew shirt, which was kindly provided by mcmuffin, the company that produced the program, passes, tickets, and T-shirts.
