Within the Genesis family, there is hardly another musician, who has been that active in terms of songwriting and recording as is Peter Gabriel. It's nearly impossible to get an overview about stuff he has written and recorded. We try to bring some light into the dark with this series of Recording Compendiums.
After his orchstral phase, Peter continued working on his new album – but got always disctracted by various projects and touring activities. After a wait of around twenty years, i/o was finally released in 2023, followed by its 'sibling' o\i in 2026…
Peter Gabriel's orchestra project turned out to be unexpectedly successful – at least at a level which caused yet another distraction from working on a new album. Meanwhile, Peter was also quite creative elsewhere.
The Real World Recording Weeks were legendary: Beside little snippets and outtakes, nothing really saw the light of day – until Peter released an album called Big Blue Ball.
The new century quickly delivered fruther releases after OVO. After a long time of silence, the output was suddenly impressive, not only in terms of quantity.
It was about time: FInally, Peter Gabriel released his next studio album after So – the album US. During the following years, he also released a live album, two CD-ROMs and he got involved again in various projects.
Not only the album So became his most successful album to date, there are also an awful lot of remixes and edits of the stuff from that period. That's why part 5 is the most extensive part of the compendium … so far.
The fourth album also took him two years to finish. With the growing confidence within his own style, Peters reputation also increased as well as his approach to work with different people. In addition, Peter developed an interest for world music, which also had an enormeous effect on his output.
It took a while until Peter Gabriel's third album was released. Peter started to be involved in various projects. In the end this also affected his own output, as you can read here.
