Genesis confirm 26 September release date for “The Lamb” boxset

There was recently some confusion about the release date of the The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway box set. The band itself has now confirmed that it will be released on 26 September.

March, June, sometime – that’s about how you could summarise the constantly changing release dates for the box set of The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. A few days ago, the band confirmed that the box set will be released on 26 September.

The announcement was packaged in some pretty emotional posts on social media platforms. There were recent photos of Peter Gabriel and Tony Banks approving the final Dolby ATMOS mix at Real World Studios. These were accompanied by statements:

Peter Gabriel:

It was an interesting experience to be back again inside the world we built 50 years ago for The Lamb. Bob Mackenzie did a brilliant job bringing it into ATMOS and it was good to be back in the mixing chairs with Tony. It brought back many good memories of being in a band. We were still wearing our ‘More Me’ T-shirts, however, we have both matured enough to (very) occasionally ask for ‘Less Me’ – would never have happened 50 years ago.

Tony Banks:

Great to have a chance to work with my old friend on something from our youth, and relive some of the moments we had when recording these pieces, and they still sounds fresh to me!

There was also a feature on the Louder / Prog website, which you can find here.

Formats and content

The box set is available as a 5LP/Blu-ray and 4CD/Blu-ray version, each containing a reproduction of the 1975 tour programme, a replica ticket, a poster and a 60-page coffee table book with rare images and new accompanying liner notes by Alexis Petridis.

The album itself was remastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios based on the 1974 master tapes. The live recording from the Shrine Auditorium is essentially the same version as on the Archive 1967-1975 box set (i.e. also with some new vocals and guitars). It is remastered and includes the two encores that were missing at the time. Accordingly, it, Watcher Of The Skies and The Musical Box were not altered in the studio.

The Blu-ray Audio contains the album in the aforementioned Dolby ATMOS sound. In addition, there is the new stereo remaster in high-resolution stereo (96kHz/24-bit). As this is a Blu-ray Audio disc, there are no visual extras. In addition, there is a download card (stereo mix in high resolution and three tracks from the Headley Grange Sessions).

Pre-orders

Please note the 4CD/Blu-ray set may not be available for pre-order on several online shops. We have reported the issue to the management again and have now been informed that the pre-order quota has been exhausted in some cases and new sets will only be allocated upon release. However, it is still available for pre-order in other shops (such as AmazonFR), while The 5LP/Blu-ray set, on the other hand, is still available for pre-order everywhere. Here are some links:
