Peter Gabriel: Another “Shock The Monkey” version on Bandcamp

For yesterday’s full moon, there was another version of the song Shock The Monkey in the Full Moon Club on Bandcamp.
In the last moon cycle, there were only two songs in the Full Moon Club on Bandcamp. For the full moon in April there was the instrumental piece The Tree That Went Up from the special edition of the OVO album. For the new moon we got a very early demo version of the song Shock The Monkey.
On yesterday’s May full moon, another version of Shock The Monkey was made available. This version, entitled Alternative Vocal Ideas, dates from late 1981 or early 1982 and was on the same tape as the early version of the song.
On this version, the structure of the song is already there and the rhythm and sound also sound familiar. The vocals are really interesting. Lots of Gabrielese and various alternative melodic approaches, some of which have nothing to do with the finished song. A nice look into the archive!
Gabriel’s Full Moon Club on Bandcamp provides fans with at least three tracks per month and costs £3 per month. A credit card is required for the subscription. You can find the Full Moon Club here.
A complete list will all Bandcamp exclusives can be found in this article.
