Peter Gabriel: Early version of “This Is The Road” on Bandcamp

To mark the new moon, Peter Gabriel has made an early but previously unknown version of the song This Is The Road available on Bandcamp.

In July 2024, Peter Gabriel had already released a complete demo of the song This Is The Road in the Full Moon Club on Bandcamp (a recording from 1986, see here). The song later became the basis of the vocal line of Make Tomorrow. Now there is another version of the song that was recorded a little earlier, in October 1985.

Peter says about this earlier version: Recorded at Ashcombe House, in November 1985, This Is The Road was, at that stage, being mooted as a potential B-Side track according to the tape. Additional pieces on the same tape are This Is The Picture and Forro (later Mercy Street).

Gabriel’s Full Moon Club on Bandcamp provides fans with at least three tracks per month and costs £3 per month. A credit card is required for the subscription. You can find the Full Moon Club here.
