Peter Gabriels releases “Tower (Remix)” on Bandcamp

For the new moon, there is a new track on Bandcamp with a rare remix of The Tower That Ate People.

After a long break and a complete live album for the last full moon (as reported), there is now a new update from Peter Gabriel in his Full Moon Club on Bandcamp for the new moon.

With Tower (Remix), we get a rare remix of the track The Tower That Ate People. At the time it was only available on the promo CD Moon. The 12-track CD also included a selection of songs from across Peter’s solo catalogue. These tracks inclouded the likes of Shock The Monkey, Sledgehammer, Here Comes The Flood, Zaar and Cloudless. It was given, alongside a Philip’s Moon Map, to attendees of listening events for the (then) forthcoming UP album.

Details about Tower (Remix)

The track The Tower That Ate People was released in many versions. The most popular version is probably the one made for the movie Red Planet. The before mentioned Moon CD shows an interesting detail. It was issued two years after OVO was released and the all tracks on Moon are listed with some info of the album it was taken from. Tower (Remix) was, according to this list, from OVO Revisited.

Now, such an album doesn’t exist, but a year later, when the HIT compilation was released, Peter mentioned in interviews that he offered HIT and Son Of OVO to record companies and they went for HIT. Son Of OVO would have been an album with rearranged tracks and songs all sung by Peter. Tower (Remix) is one of the likely versions of that never released project.

Another track is Make Tomorrow Today, that was briefly released as part of the Haiti charity project (see here). White Ashes was performed in Peter’s own version during the Still Growing Up Tour 2004. Further tracks habe not yet appeared and based on what we know, the project was never finished.

Gabriel’s Full Moon Club on Bandcamp provides fans with at least three tracks per month and costs £3 per month. A credit card is required for the subscription. You can find the Full Moon Club here.
