Ray Wilson: New single “Whatever’s Written In Your Heart”

Yesterday Ray Wilson released his third new single 2025 – a cover version of Gerry Rafferty’s Whatever’s Written In Your Heart.
On Good Friday, Ray Wilson surprised everyone with the release of a new single. Whatever’s Written In Your Heart is a cover version of the Gerry Rafftery song and was recorded in the studio at the end of last year with the following musicians:
Ray Wilson: Guitars / Vocals
Ali Ferguson: Lead Guitar
Steve Wilson: Guitars / Vocals
Marcin Kajper: Bass
Kool Lyczek: Piano / Keyboards
Mario Koszel: Drums
Alicja Chrsaszcz: Violin
The song is currently only available on YouTube, but will soon also be available on streaming services and download portals.
More singles in 2025
Two more songs were released as digital singles at the end of March:
Voices

This song has been played regularly at Ray Wilson’s concerts for some time and a recording of the song from Zoetermeer (Poppodium Boerderij) is also available on YouTube. The song was created in collaboration with Ray’s new wife Marika Wilson, who can also be heard on the song and seen in the video.
Ray says about Voices:
“When I started dating my wife, we didn’t go to a restaurant or anything like that. I decided to take an acoustic guitar around her house ans sing songs with her. We sang some Elvis stuff or Country Roads by John Denver – really old school. I didn’t work immediately but it was a lot of fun. We also started working on new ideas. One of these became Voices.”
Voices is available (it’s the live version of the video) on the usual streaming platforms. It can also be purchased as a download.
Different Goals For Different Souls
This song has also been appearing regularly in Ray Wilson’s set for some time. Just like Voices, there is also a video here, which was recorded in Zoetermeer and is available on YouTube. Unlike Voices, Different Goals For Different Souls has a clear acoustic atmosphere.

Ray says about Different Goals For Different Souls:
“I wrote this song two or three years ago. It was really inspired by John Prine, the folk singer who had died a few years ago. When he died, I got the idea to write a song for him, as strange as that sounds. I wanted to write in the same kind of style he did, because I like it so very much. This is the result. It was an interesting experiment and it’s a song about lyrics.”
Different Goals For Different Souls is available (it’s the live version of the video as well) on the usual streaming platforms. It can also be purchased as a download.
Voices and Different Goals For Different Souls were recorded live with his band:
Ray Wilson: Vocals / Guitars
Steve Wilson: Vocals / Guitars
Ali Ferguson: Lead Guitar
Lawrie Macmillan: Bass
Marcin Kajper: Saxophone
Kool Lyczek: Piano / Keyboards
Mario Koszel: Drums
Alicja Chrzaszcz: Violin
New music – new album?
Naturally, the new songs raise the question of whether Ray will soon be releasing a new album – and thus the successor to The Weight Of Man. In fact, however, the three songs so far have been created and released as independent song releases without an album context. And Ray will continue with individual song releases for the time being. He has already worked on a few new songs and ideas, but a complete album is not currently planned.
UPDATE: All three new tracks are now available for free (download) on Ray WIilson’s website.
