Phil Collins: Surprise performance by Mike Rutherford in Berlin

Old band mate joins Phil on Follow You, Follow Me

With tonight’s show at Ceres Park in Aarhus, Denmark the first week of Phil Collins’ Still Not Dead Yet Live-Tour comes to an end. Counting this show in, Phil and his band have now already played five concerts since last Sunday, 2nd June 2019 in Vienna (Austria), Lyon (France), Stuttgart and Berlin (both Germany)

To most of you it might not be much of a surprise that the setlist has not significantly changed since the Oceania tour earlier this year. The concert evergreen of former tours Don’t Lose My Number now replaces the rather rarely played Inside Out. With this variation Phil once again on the current tour proves his soft spot for No Jacket Required-Songs. In Vienna Don’t Lose My Number made its tour debut and was played for the first time since 2005. An interesting fact is, that it’s already the seventh song of the album being played on the current tour. Exactly the same number of songs from that album were performed on the No Jacket Required-Tour back in 1985 - and exactly the same seven songs!

Can’t Turn Back The Years, that already missed the last Oceania-concert in Napier, has now definitively been dropped, maybe because Phil himself believes it’s not suitable for stadium concerts. Another change in the setlist is the move of I Missed Again to a later spot.

Still there are three Genesis songs in the setlist: Throwing It All Away, Follow You, Follow Me and Invisible Touch. Like 2004 and 2017 Mike + The Mechanics are support band for Phil Collins for the first six Europe concerts. This made a lot of fans dream about the opportunity of Mike joining Phil on stage for one or more of these songs - finally. On the above named former occasions this dream never came true.

But only until yesterday: it was big surprise for everyone when Mike took the stage in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium last night and sat down on a stool next to Phil for Follow You, Follow Me. Considering that Mike so far only joined Phil on stage for a few charity concerts but never on a solo tour, last night’s performance is a little sensation.

This performance will surely fuel speculations about a Genesis reunion. Regardless of the Berlin concert the definitive probability of a reunion is still written in the stars. Even though Mike and Tony recently were quoted that they can imagine Nic Collins drumming with Genesis.

Videos of this memorable performance are available here:

Additional information: It has been confirmed that Mike has also joined Phil on stage in Aarhus, Denmark tonight on Follow You, Follow Me.
