Personal story regarding Mark Knopfler dating back to October 2011. Bob Dylan was touring and MK was his opening act. I like a lot of Dylan's material but had no desire to see him live and even though I was/am still a big fan of MK I was not keen on seeing him as a support act.
My sister-in-law is a big Dylan fan and had seen him before and was always playing his music and raving about how good he was live. She wanted to go through to Glasgow (Braehead Arena) to see him with her husband but they had no transport at the time. She knew I liked MK so bought me a ticket with the arrangemnet I would drive us all through to Glasgow. I thought why not, another chance to see MK and I will bear the Dylan part!!
They both knew the music of Dire Straits but had never heard any of his solo material so played some of his music in the car so they were used to the type of music they were going to hear. After arriving we enjoyed a nice meal and then made our way to the arena. Settled down into our seats (which had a great view) and then the show began. Mark was brilliant as usual, crowd enthusastic about his music. What can I say about Dylan - his voice was rubbish and he never spoke in between any of the songs, I really did not enjoy that part of the show. The interesting part was the journey back.
As soon as we got in the car my sister-in-law asked me to put on MK music I had. For the journey that lasted about an hour she kept on raving about how good MK was totally overshadowed Dylan. I have never seen her so overwhelmed with what she had experienced at the concert. She went there to see Dylan but came away being a fan of MK. To this day we still have a laugh about it.
