I thought I understood he would go on with the full moon releases. Have you heard it would only be Bandcamp ?

There are differences

that's another good question ! He doesn't talk about those. It seems he lost faith in these tracks. He seems to be willing to express himself in a more simple / direct way these days.
I hope Why don't you show yourself will be released someday as I quite love it...
-
Maybe there will be a second album (a year) after I/O ? Who knows ? I bet Peter won't promise anything with the UP - I/O experience But a quick 2nd release Is a possibility with all those tracks that won't end up on I/O. In the uncut interview PG also says that tracks like The veil and Why don't you show yourself should some day find a place on an album ....
-
I remember PG saying during an interview (a very long time ago) that the best way to do an album would be to record it in the usual way, go on tour to play it, and record the whole album within a week or so right after the tour.
I think he might plan to do some tweaks and changes on the songs after having played them live. And that could be a reason why he plays so many of them….

this is a really lovely track! Probably my favourite for now. Beautiful melody, nice synths harmonies and fluent song. Lots of ideas in there, but it still sound quite simple and direct. And the singing is just amazing!

Yes I am. Copy and paste this on your browser. Do not click on it https://music.apple.com/nz/alb…ide-mix-single/1679377325

I'm excited ! The dark side mix seems to sound so much more natural. There's a beautiful resonant drum sound. Not hyper radio compressed. Also many additional synth sounds. Looking forward to hear more than the preview tomorrow...

What I like about all the tracks at the moment is their overall lightness in the arrangements. While I do miss a little the beautiful textures present in many of his past tracks, this new approach brings a welcomed freshness.

If you dislike something you don't like it, simple as that and absolutely fair enough but even so, I'm truly baffled by some of the negative comments and nitpicking here.
I like this a lot and am enjoying its clean, organic, unfussy sound. The chorus has really nice uplift and the shifting piano-led line under it has a great feel.
It's not a big deal. It seems the track splits opinions, yes. I'am a little disappointed with this one, yes. Being the title track, my hopes where maybe too big ?
And I thought at 70 Peter would relax and let go with the idea of trying to go in the charts ? Something seems somehow forced here.
Of course there are nice ideas / elements in there. The melody is catchy. Piano is nice also. I wouldn't say the track sounds organic. It sounds a little cold to my ears. At least on the rhythmic side (Compare the amazingly living drum sound of Sledgehammer for example) I miss maybe some Daniel Lanois touch here .
But I understand what you mean when you say you enjoy the unfussy sound !
Many people seem to like it also ! So it must not be that wrong.
Anyway, the average level of what we've got until now is very high and I am as always looking forward to the next one ! (and curious about the DSM of I/O).
Cheers

I think that for most people the differences between both versions are really too subtle. I would actually like PG to compile the versions between the Bright and Dark mixes he wants us to listen to. The best I/O album would probably be a combination of both approaches, depending on the songs.
And we can hope he would then also release "The other sides" of I/O" on Bandcamp for the fans...?
-
Although on the other 3 tracks I love the bright side mixes, I really hope the dark side mix will bring something extra to the track. I really really dislike the drum sound here, with that super thin and compressed kick drum...
-
Good for you !
It's nice he's making light / happy songs I find. I quite liked Panopticom.
Also nice he's doing something different than before (although I would love some tracks that are more moody, emotional or with some textures …:)
As that song is so simple, I don't think it will grow on me. But in the middle of an album, the track won't hurt if it has some nice neighborhood !
-
I'm trying hard to like it, but this song doesn't do anything to me. It average to my ears. 1000 times already heard on radios.
And although I like the idea he's expressing, the lyrics lack some poetry .
He's trying too hard on this one imho

Hum....no too sure about the preview that I just heard.
Sounds a bit like some soundtrack melodies, and quite classical in its approach.
I miss some surprise for the moment. Let's wait for the full version though

As always, don't click on the link but copy and paste in your browser.

Interesting, but it's still very much a work in progress version. There is quite some work to be done on the arrangement to make that version really work.
The released Dark and Bright versions are a better direction to my ears...

Yes but it is known that Peter sang all track as guide vocals. He talked about doing "a songwriter's version" of Ovo. It doesn't have to be that ambitious.
The same Ovo album with PG's vocals would already be great !
And if PG offered to release Son of Ovo to. his label, it means that it was close from being ready ...
-
I'd really like if Peter
I'd really prefer if we'll get recordings of some of the old unreleased tracks, like John has ea headachem, Why don't we, ecc....
and Son of Ovo ! That would really make me happy. I think that this album could be even better than Up

Bright side version of Playing for time is online now. As usual beautiful mix. The ending is less dramatic, with less bass drum, but it's beautifully managed. This engineer is a master for subtlety. The strings and the voice sound amazing. I'm a fan.
I also like the dramatic option of the dark side mix, with is probably more typical Gabriel, but again I vote for the Bright option
I really loved the In-Side mix of Panopticon, but I'm quite disappointed with the result of The Court and PFT. When you compare, the quality of the sound is just not as good.
-
I've not seen anyone - anywhere - comment on the similarity to Washing Of The Water when PFT moves to "part two". Just me?
It's funny. Because I hadn't listen that song for years, but its melody came back strongly in my head some time after I heard PFT. So there must be something in the vibe.
