I''m just pleased to hear of Tony's involvement in anything!
Yes. I totally agree.👍
I''m just pleased to hear of Tony's involvement in anything!
Yes. I totally agree.👍
Yes I read:
QuoteSteve Hackett said the following about John Lennon:
“He gave an interview to radio that I’m yet to hear, but I think it’s Nigel Pierce in Norfolk who’s the DJ there. He said to me that he’d got a tape of Lennon talking to him; I’m not sure who he was talking to, but saying that he thought there were two bands who were true sons of the Beatles. He said one was ELO and one was Genesis.
I'd love to blend and merge all these short mainly vocal intros into one file to listen to...
1. When did you buy Selling England By The Pound (or have received it as a gift)?
In school aged about 15 in 1983.
2. How old were you when Selling England was released?
About six!
3. Was Selling England your first Genesis album? If not, how many Genesis albums did you own before getting Selling??
No, it was about the third one I bought.
4. If you had to rank all Genesis albums, where does Selling England stand?
It's one of my faves. Genesis Shapes and Trespass being my top two!!
5. Which track was your favourite when you bought the album?
I know what I like...
6. Which track is your favourite today?
Cinema Show
7. Which track do you think is the best track on the record despite your own taste?
Firth Of Fifth - couldn't get behind it as Phil would say though when I was 15..
8. How many versions of the album have you bought / owned? (Vinyl, CD, Remaster, Cassette, SACD etc)
Record, cd, remastered cd, remixed cd...
Thanks for the further titles - 👍👍
Apologies if this has been covered before.
How many Genesis songs can we think of that that have vocal intros before the main song begins - or mainly vocal intros?
The song that got me started on this thought was Silver Rainbow..
1.Silver Rainbow
2.Cul-De-Sac
3.Looking For Someone
4.Dancing With The Moonlit Knight
Any others>>
Bought the single and the album - I loved the album - bought Trespass on vinyl around the same time - they're two of my fave Genesis lp's - yes I am strange!
Just wish Ant had done one more album before he left... 😢
Just got the album.
Most enjoyable.
The track 'Circus Of Wire Dolls' reminds me of the sound you would get if Trevor Rabin & Marillion did a song together.
Still searching for lyrics!
Genesis Interview The Mail On Sunday Magazine Feb 26th 1984
Bit of a long shot, but is this available to read anywhere online?

Fleesh - The Musical Box (from "Here It Comes Again" - A Tribute to Genesis)
Thanks.
That list is so similar to may own best tracks!
Any other songs we may have overlooked that demand to be at the top of Tony's best work?
What are your all time favourite solo songs by Tony?
I don't listen to his solo work nearly as much as I should, although I have all his recordings.
Lately, I've been struck by the song The Border - remastered version.
Tony's playing, the arrangement, Alistair Gordon's vocals and lyrics are all outstanding.
Any other fans of this song?
The Border Tony Banks - Remastered
The intro always reminds me a little of Anthony Phillips Anthony Phillip's Force Majeure:
QuoteDisplay MoreThe Border
Dry forever the sun blinds off the whitewashed walls
Unbelieving she looks up from the unswept floor
You don't have to go you don't have to tell me
All that talk of lofty causes wrapped in foolish pride
That's a lie
That you don't have to tell me
I don't wanna hear how wisdom walks beside you
Or how God is inside you again
No wire marks the border
No fence or wall
No town breaks this horizon
Nothing at all
Dust surrounds her the men go hungry for disaster
All they leave behind are
The old and useless and the broken
That never will be mended
I don't wanna hear you're captured by the madness
Of ideas long discredited from other people's minds
They're all lies
That you don't have to tell me
All that comes of this is poverty and hardship
Still you don't absorb a word I say
But now there is a border
A line of blood
Now men patrol the border
But they're dead
Somewhere a bird is flying oh
Somewhere the wind is sighing oh
I hope it brings you comfort
Cos it's surely no good to me
This wind blows me down
And cuts me like a knife
And now the darkness and coldness
That freezes out illusion
Restores the picture gives back the pieces
And lays them on the empty floor
I don't want to hear so you don't have to tell me
How you rewrite history a little every day
Till it's lies
That you don't have to tell me
I don't want to hear how good it really has been
How wonderful the troubles we shared
No I don't want to hear so you don't have to tell me
I don't need your comfort I just need your company
Thanks for taking on the extra responsibility Len. atb Gaz.
Sorry to hear about you accident Christian - hope you are feeling better and it hasn't put you off bikes.
Best Wishes
Gaz
That's a great version - thank you!
Also enjoyed this version - many years later - but Phil still has it!!
Genesis - Mama (from When in Rome 2007 DVD)
Just had a listen - very impressed - thanks!
Just been listening to the 1990 Knebworth version of Mama.
That made me wonder - which is the best live version of Mama available on youtube in your opinion?
All recommendations will be enjoyed and listened too!
Cheers
Gaz
Thank you so much!
