The mic he used was attached to speakers which pumped sound out to the crowed.
The stage mics were what recorded the sound professionally and didn't pick up Peters Vocals.

The stage and effects were amazing and by far the best Genesis and probably anyone else has done thus far.
Chester said, the show was meant to be recorded and released, but Peter refused to stand by the stage microphones recording and thats why they never got any decent sound of this show.
So blame Peter ultimately
The lamb arrangement was really well done and made a very old song, feel fresh, I hope a sound board of this comes out.

Can we just pause for a moment and recognise how there is no one else like Phil Collins and his arrangement.
The bridge into the Lamb was beautifully done and having watched the documentary the other day, they show a clip, where Phil brings up the idea and the raw arrangement he thought off.
It was a lovely version of the song and shows Phil is still able to create some of his best work even now.
My old man this morning was saying, that they should still write another album.
Drumming aside, Phils voice I feel wouldn't be good enough sadly, but I hope he will still somehow take some involvement into doing the things he can do should he choose to.
Such an under appreciated talent still to this day.
Display MoreNic has been pretty reliable in the interviews he's given, other than giving the impression that Apocalypse in 9/8 would be played on this tour. And he's given a couple of interviews recently referring to his dad retiring after this tour is over.
I believe that is Phil's intention, to retire with the audience wanting more. His unlikely comeback as a solo artist and with Genesis didn't see him at his very best, but he gave his all and left us still wanting to see him again. Bravo, that is the way to go out. The only caveat, and I do see it as a caveat rather than a hope, is that Phil seems to come alive and be at his happiest when he's singing on stage. In time he may miss that and decide to do some more concerts, even if it's not a full on tour. And it will all depend on his health.
Ultimately for them all, the world is their stage. It's up to them individually and collectively. Mike & The Mechanics were active until right before this Genesis tour and could pick up where they left off. Tony doesn't have any live side projects and has always maintained that he doesn't see himself as a performer....but honestly if he chose he could put something together, guest with any Genesis related band or tribute band he chose, write songs with Steve Hackett (anyone else noticed Tony's mentioned missing that in recent interviews), or just put on his slippers and play Hogweed in his living room. Ultimately, though he may not see it this way, he's Tony Freakin' Banks and can do whatever he wants. I'm sure Daryl will find receptive musicians, he's well versed in many styles of music and very versatile. Nic's stock must be sky high and he'll be in demand.
RUmour has it that Gabriel is working on his I/O project again so we may yet see him take the stage again. Steve is being Steve, touring successfully, releasing albums that chart quite well. Ant is being Ant...making bread and butter from library music and himself available for Genesis related interviews...and his body of work speaks for itself.
As for a guest appearance by Gabriel or any other alumnus....I think that Phil singing Genesis out with Carpet Crawlers was just perfect. If Gabriel had come on stage last night it might have been better for him to sing something else earlier in the set. Or at an earlier gig. Ditto Steve or anyone else had they appeared. This was the line-up of Genesis that existed for more time than any other. Not my favourite but the best known, most successful, longest lasting...those three are close friends who have shared 50+ years of Genesis together. While it's clear that everyone still seems to get on with Pete, RIchard Macphail and probably Steve, this was a celebration of the trio plus Daryl.
Maybe it would have been appropriate for Peter and RIchard (who were in attendance) to take a a bow with everyone? Maybe Peter just didn't want to. In the end, we must understand that these guys did the tour *they* wanted to do...played and sang the songs they wanted to play...they did it their way. And it was a tremendous success. So long, and thanks for all the fish. If there are more fish from any of the (ex) members in the future, I'll consume them. But if not....they leave a fantastic body of work.
Re 9/8, actually his most recent interview clarified it up.
When he was asked to drum, he went and learned as many of the songs as possible, including bits like 9/8.
He said he had his favourites and asked the band to include them, but they said no for various reasons. Also, they couldn't do to many instrumentals due to Phil and so, it was never officially practiced by the band, just Nic learning as many of the songs on his own time pre the New York Practice.
Peter is too much of a gentleman to step in at the last second, steal the limelight and detract from the three men who have been Genesis for the vast majority of the band's existence.
Be interesting to know if it was ever officially mooted or even asked though!
Nick said about a week ago, he has not heard anything discussed in his presence about anything being planned and he didn't think it would happen.
Yeah have seen this now.
I mean, never say never I guess.
But, I think a full tour on a solo basis would be out.

it's a shame there isn't much in the press (if anything) about Genesis last night.
The telegraph did a peice other day which wasn't very good, the band deserved better.

I managed to get get a few up close pics of the production isle and the stage production area last night, as well as the stage, drum kit, Tony's keyboards and Phil's chair before the show started.
Walked around the arena and got some signage outside and also the the various VIP signs and merchandise bits inside for my pic collection.
I decided not to spend £15 on the programme, as I still have my paper ticket fully intact as a souvenir
Display Moreearly morning after the night before......some thoughts on last night show, which will echo some stuff already said..
Firstly, wow what a great show,...rumours of Phil's demise have been overplayed. thought his voice was very strong all compared, and seemed to be having a great time. very strong for some tough numbers like Mama, and thought he took No Son, to a higher level at the end....great emotion
Many highlights...Duchess was always going to be a great moment for me, and IKWIL was a great crowd effort, also HBTS part two, was exceptional
amusing when Phil pretended to play harmonica....think he lost his way in WCD, but got a smile from Mike. also noticed a small screen erected at at the back of the stage for Phil to stand behind whilst waiting for encore...guessing easier than getting on and off stage
Went with my partner who really only knows the radio songs and though she might struggle with some of the other songs....at the end she said she loved the long instrumental one's.....go figure!
so this may be the end of the iine, but have to say Phil. Mike and Nick seemed to be having a great time...so never so never. It could have been my imagination, but maybe even a slight show of emotion from Tony during the band introductions, having said that I don't think he smiled all night....that man is made of stone!
it may be time playing tricks with the memory, but as others have said, possibly a better show than TIOA...probably due to being indoors rather than a stadium, but band also seemed tighter and Nick drives them on
was on the floor seats and crowd stood the whole show, and no-one in my row went for a drink or toilet break....fantastic!. 2 rows in front was almost empty...maybe a group booking gone wrong, but a least this gave me a better view!
all in all a great night, and for me a great way to end a lifetime trip. for those going tonight have a great time and make the most of the evening

This! I couldn't believe how powerful and raw the sound was when I saw them in December. It was aggressive in a way I don't associate with Genesis. I loved it.
I think Domino was actually the flattest of the set sound wise, at least at the beginning.
Phil just paused on one verse in Domino which was funny, lost his way a bit and came back In later.
I recorded full version of Mama. Second Home by the Sea & the End from TTT onwards.
Rest, just did little bits on most but not all, as wanted to savour the experience.
Also have bad flu so I was struggling for energy at times lol
Phil though sounded great and when you watch live, it's totally different experience to some of the videos on you tube.
