We are basically done with all 11 parts of the compendium.

Right now we are working on a major website update (we have been since February) and have put major updates on hold. We hope to be back on track soon, but I assume we won’t continue until after the summer.

    But we will!

We invite you to share interesting facts and tidbits about this track. Let's look at the track in the context of the band's / the artist's history, at the music, the songwriting and all other aspects that are relevant for this track. Please do stick to the discussion of the track above. Comparisons to other tracks are okay, but remember that the other track you may be keen to talk about has or will have its own Track Of The Week thread. If you spot a mistake or if you can close a gap in the fact sheet above please feel free to contact martinus or Christian about it; we will gladly add and improve!

Notes: The last track to be released prior to the album's release was Live And Let Live, which also was an important track in the live set. .

A rather dark horse on the "Unfulfillment" album is this track. The older it gets, the more I like it.

I kind of rediscovered the Unfulfillment album recently. There are quite a few good tracks on that record, including this one.

The new Villagers album is just outstanding. I love this band, despite a few average releases. The last one was okay. But this is really stunning.

    An example

You’re right. Im very sad that the I/O Tour was so short…

This wasn't really a surprise. Quite obviously the album production was expensive, so he probably needed a tour to finance that. Then again, he's 74, so I didn't really expect a longer tour. I even found it surprising he did Europa AND North America.

Peter lives his life and family means everything for him, he doesn't have to do all that touring etc. So no wonder he did limit that to what's necessary and a bit of fun probably.

Even if a new album is coming within the next 1-2 years, I wouldn't expect him to tour again .....

He doesn’t have so much new tracks (maybe 4 or 5 songs…) and it’s for the next album.

They have worked on 22/23 tracks and finished 17 of them, so there are 5 finished tracks remaining. Plaus there might be an option to do new versions of Show Yourself (this track has not been part of Rated PG) and PG said in one of his Full Moon videos that he would like to continue with new music in 2024 - and indeed those tracks would then be for another new album. No contradiction here ....

Tracks we are aware of are:

    What Lies Ahead

    Put The Bucket Down

been rather busy for a while - but here is another one:

"Lemon Yellow Sun" is quite an usual track compared to the otzer tracks on "She" and the video is also from 2021.

Notes: One of the pleasant surprises in the 2007 live set was without doubt Ripples. Many had not expected that one of the stand-out tracks from the Trick album would be played again on what was - at the time - probably the last Genesis tour. Ripples paved the way in 1976: Genesis were now in a position to produce the songs in a more compact way and to make them musically punk. Ripples contains "The Best Of Both Worlds", so to speak?

Not complaining but just wondering why does Mike Rutherford limit his tours to only the UK and sometimes Europe.

He last played in North America in 2015 and long before that in 1989 when I saw him in Montreal.

According to setlist.com, his grand total to date of Mike & The Mechanics Canadian shows is a mere 9.

North America is a tough market for the Mechanics so I assume in combination with the effort to fly over there, rather to play basically in the neighbourhood in the UK, is simply not easy to organize. Last year there only was UK and Germany.

But of course it would be nice to seem them play in more countries, I agree.

Notes: Come Talk To Me is the powerful and dense opener of the 1992 US album. Gabriel once wrote the song when he lost the connection to his daughter Melanie. Years later, Peter and Melanie stood on stage together and sang the song together. Come Talk To Me was not played live regularly after 1993/1994, but was always one of the highlights of live shows. There is another, reduced version of the song, which can be heard briefly on the All About US video. However, this version has not yet been officially released.
