I quite enjoy the album. Nevertheless, I need a few more spins for a more detailed judgement.
Impressive list of drummers ....

Wow that really slipped thru there didn't it??? LOL But seeing as how I was only in 6th grade at the time, and no social media yet and all that...makes sense I guess why I wouldn't have heard of it back then!
I was older at the time but never saw this as well. It made me laugh actually (despite the serious subject). Nice contribution by our Phil ....

I appreciate this release, but it's not making me freak out
I like this stuff and I am grateful that we get to hear this. But I am also aware he probably holds back the best material for a commercial release (boxset, Deluxe Editions etc) ...

I really like the song. I saw a show (20 years ago?) in which “That voice again” was played as a stripped down version only on the keyboard. I really liked that too. 12 points ...

First of all, thank you for the detailed and comprehensive review. I think it's great that there are still authors who don't just deal with the work superficially, but can put many details into context.
I've only listened to the album twice so far, but I'm quite satisfied. It will certainly take more time for my impressions to solidify.
All in all, I'm pleased that Nick is continuing to make music. You can discover a lot on his albums and have a lot of fun with his music.

I always thought this track could have been better. 11/15 from my side for a nice track that kind of showed what they would be able to do later on ...

In Tribute I discovered the world of "acoustic stuff", as Steve calls them.
They are songs of a few minutes, where the guitar plays a simple theme.
It's a nice introduction into chamber music.
I always liked Tribute - for pretty much the same reasons.
Can't find my copy. Will get the CD versions (of both albums).

Hey
There is a new Tony Levin album out - "Bringing it down to the bass".
I think it's only on bandcamp, but worth checking out. Quite a few guest musicians appear on that one. Jerry Marietta, Larry Fast, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd, Mike Portnoy, Robert Fripp ... among others.
Some tracks are solid, some are great. All in all quite a good album, amazing what Tony delivers on his instrument. Quite stunning really. Check out "On the drums"
Here's the bandcamp link

Not so easy. I quite like the album - but picking 5 from ca 30 songs is hard.
"Girl"
"Going to a Go-Go"
"Jimmy Mack"
"Never dreamed you'd leave in summer"
"Papa was a rolling stone"

Surely one of his better tracks, also compared to other tracks from his earlier albums. I think 14 points are perfect for this track!

Rick Beato recently posted a lengthy interview with Tony Levin, covering a broad sweep of his amazing career. There are sections that focus on his work with Peter Gabriel, but I find the whole interview very interesting.

I'm not at all surprised there's never been a film or stage play.
Even heavily adapted for a current audience I think it's too convoluted a piece of source material to really work. As someone who loves the album I really hope no-one ever tries to adapt it. Luckily I doubt it'll ever happen.
I think Peter thought about this quite often but never really started to push things. Maybe for good reasons ...
As for the anniversary celebration: I also think Concord is eager to do something and there have been rumours about a box set for years, so it wouldn't surprise me. I just hope they'll do it nicely. They tend to show a lot of lack for details on those releases, sadly ...

Very sad news indeed and wonderful words from his old bandmate(s).
I met him once and oif course I read his book. Gone too soon!

I like this a lot. Would have made a nice album closer, musically.
13/15 ...

I gave up hope ....
why?
Seems like archive releases are more likely than ever …

Border, Big Man, More I hide it
Not his best work, but still a nice album. Doesn’t hurt, doesn’t blow away ….

That has been on YouTube for a while, but of course it's nice to see this being officially released in better quality!

Certainly one of the better tracks on BS. It's in two parts, and somehow it's a combination of two songs (but then, Genesis did that as well).
A shame he didn't play this track on later tours.
