Agreed on all points you rose, my worry is, so I believe, it's a in-house vote who who is elected, not the public.

Yes it is, but being realistic, what party would go to the polls in their situation, when they have a massive majority. Brown didn't when he took over from Blair, and that was all pre-planned.

I really just hope that they elect someone with some what, a bit of common sense :?:. :/

Have no faith in any of the parties, who ever is in. They all lie through their teeth. I'm glad Boris is going, I've never liked him as a leader and to me never took things seriously enough to run a country.

I'm praying that the economy of Britain improves with a new leader.

Agreed on all that. I think Sunak or Javid would both be good choices, they at least had the guts to kick the process off, potentially a personally risky move.

I didn't vote in the last election. I wanted the Tories to win, as they were the only ones who were going to act on the Brexit referendum vote. Whether you agreed with Brexit or not, the people had voted, and that was that. Had a particular issue with those calling for a "peoples vote"! Who did they think had voted in the referendum? Squirrels? But I just couldn't vote for Boris, having thought him a joke for so long. He's a "doer", but the problem is what he chooses to do.

Couldn't vote for Corbyn, who had already admitted he was going to borrow, as Labour always does. Never have a plan for repaying though, always leave that nettle for the Tories to grasp, with all the brickbats it attracts. Imagine if he HAD got in, borrowed, then Covid had happened, a REAL emergency that required borrowing for. Think the economy is bad now?

Then there was the Liberal "DEMOCRATS" whose leader Jo Swinson (remember her) said she didn't care what the people had voted for, she wasn't going to trigger Brexit. Thankfully, there were enough who thought following the votes was an important principle.

I hope the new person gets a grip, strikes the balance between keeping the nation's economy as healthy as it can currently be in the World situation, but deals with the effects on the poor. I also hope they have Boris's attitude to Ukraine. Which, after all, is the cause of much of the economic problem the World is facing. I think people generally need to be a bit more grateful for the fact they are struggling to keep the home running, when Ukrainians are struggling to stay alive. People seem to think they have a God-given right to be wealthier next year than this, as do companies who always moan that their profits have dropped. Never understood the logic of that thinking.

Boris Johnson is to resign as Britain's Prime Minister today. He will still stay as leader until a replacement is found by the end of the summer.

50 of his own cabinet members all resigned yesterday, leaving Boris with no where to turn.

I expect Putin will gloat about this, but our ability to swap leaders is a strength.

Having updated my turntable I’ve been buying some heavyweight vinyl to enjoy. I’m

not intending to replicate all my old vinyl but to build a small collection of my favourites. So far I’ve bought all Genesis albums including FGTR box set, all Beatles albums including Past Masters, the Moody Blues core 7, Miles Davies Kind of Blue and Karajan’s ‘63 Beethoven cycle. I’m now picking up occasional bits, Hackett’s recent issues, a bit of Yes, some McCartney etc. I like the sound of them and enjoy the old feeling of handling an album But I agree with others that the odd pop and crackle is frustrating (but worth it in the end)

I have the Direct Metal Master of the Moody Blues The Present, which I don't need as I have the original and remaster of it on CD. If you'd like it, it's yours, just have to arrange getting it to you. Don't suppose you are ever down Chester way?

Sounds as bad as Chris Bliss, a juggler, who opened for Asia on their first tour - Wembley Arena 1982.

He was hopeless - dropping balls all over the place. Plenty of booing and quite rightly so. What were the band/management/promoters thinking?!

Perhaps there were musicians union issues?

Kate Bush had a magician (Simon Drake?) but he was part of her show, not a support act. Dancers, too, of course.

    Toyah and Robert do Rammstein:

Robert gets Sunday and Samstag (Saturday) mixed up.

I notice they have one of those drying frames that lower from the ceiling, just like an aunt of mine had in the 1970's! :)

It wasn't Biden who stacked the Supreme Court with extremist right wingers. It wasn't Biden who stopped Obama from even having a nominee on the court.

It's certainly true that Biden inherited a terrible situation from the previous (n)inc(ompoop)umbent, but I still think he was only the least worst candidate. :/

Exactly. I do intend to listen to it all. But I struggle getting round it.. There comes a point when I have to tell myself to stop buying and listen more to the stuff I've got. Also I do admit I've bought stuff and put away with the intention of getting it out for the right time, and it's been forgotten! Still if people can collect stamps which make no noise at all no matter how much attention they are given ,then I guess I can collect records and CDs.

I find stamps make a small amount of noise if you burn them! ^^

Yep, I buy CD's (not vinyl, don't see the point, it doesn't sound better, and it wears out) and don't stream. My daughter is 30, and the streaming generation, but even she admits it's ok until they remove stuff from the servers, then you're stuck. Plus she collects Kpop and they have really pushed the boundaries of getting collectors on board.

As for buying stuff I'll never get round to listening to, no, again, I don't see the point. I'm fussy, so only buy stuff I like, or expect to.

Procol Harum: actually like a lot of their stuff and am thinking of buying at least a best of, plus the same for Gordon Lightfoot, and Lenny Kravitz.

Latest Acquisition? Kartoon World, by the Korgis.

The remixes all come in CD cases with clear CD holding panels that allow you to read the words "200x Digital Remaster and Stereo Mix" so you can't miss 'em! I don't know about the "last domino" as I don't have it, but I'd assume so, the R-Kive ones were.

Effectively, a one week old foetus now has more right to life than a ten year old schoolkid! Bizarre! I've never understood the anti-abortionist stance, no-one is telling them to have an abortion, please extend the same courtesy back, and don't tell others not to have one. It's none of your business. If it offends God, he will let you know when you meet him.

All the above calls to mind Richard Herring's Christ On A Bike show. Mr FIC loves this guy. I find him mildly amusing at best.

I think he's great too, If Mr FIC isn't aware of them (and I'm sure he is) check out Fist of Fun, 2 series of TV shows with Stewart Lee, and "That was then, this is now" several series of BBC radio shows using his history knowledge as a source of gags. Among other things, he once edited the Wikipedia entry on Osama Bin Laden to imply he was a time traveller, to add to a gag on his show.

I'm continuing to resist. Ive heard bad things. From what I understand, they made it better for gamers, which I couldn't care less about, and threw everyone else under the bus.

Agreed. There are lots of youtube videos about how to avoid the upgrade for now, if you keep getting it the marketing push from Microsoft. It's even questionable if you can upgrade, you need to run a utility to decide if your PC can even run W11, though it is certainly possible to do so even if the utility tells you your computer doesn't meet the requirements. Microsoft even now have a page about how to do just that, although it has the usual caveats in place. Bottom line is that W10 now has a "supported until Oct 2025" guarantee, so I'd stick with it at least until then, hopefully, W11 won't be such a train crash by then *, and the range of machines that can run it may have been extended.

    * Funny that, a new system from Windows that is almost unusable on release. You'd hope they'd have learnt by now.

I compared my copy of the ARCHIVE #1 booklet to the pages shown in Discogs, and all of the pages are there (although some in the middle are now falling out). I note one difference, though: On page 34 (which says "GAUMONT THEATRE" in the upper left), the "revealing" picture in the upper right ("ALL OF RICHARD") has a "censoring" stripe added in my copy that's not there in Discogs.

On another note, it occurs to me that I've never been inclined to read all of the various articles, etc., in the booklet. I'm not sure why.

No censoring on mine (UK). American censorship?
