Happy New Year All! We are having a snowstorm here today, something we don’t see all that often. Being on the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland usually the nearby Atlantic Ocean air is warm enough to keep our precipitation rain or ice. You know what they say about a snow year ☃️:)

I’m getting a good laugh (larf?) from reading these stories of encounters with British hooligans. The accounts sound like the old American stereotype of the typical Brit as being courteous to a fault—inquiring as to whether anyone is using seats before destroying them, inviting someone out for a beer after robbing them 😂

Those "mini" guitars (sorry, that made me laugh) were Steinberger guitars and were quite pricey back on the day (made out of graphite). I never liked them also but they seemed so fitting given how sucky the '80s were generally, not just fashion. We could have along chat about that, As far as the '70s go, I'll take my bell bottom jeans and platform shoes any day over those hideous Sergio Valente jeans and upper jackets lol.

And let’s not forget Phil’s mullet lol.

HP has since said the drums on the album make him cringe now and he wishes they could remaster the album to include acoustic drums.

Ah the 80s: electric drums, synth horns, those ridiculous looking mini-guitars (I don’t care how good they may or may not sound, they look ridiculous), and Tony and Mike in their Miami Vice suits while Phil sports the business casual look onstage in his cotton Dockers and white dress shirt. Embarrassing.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas. While making Christmas dinner (turkey; gravy; stuffing; mashed potatoes; mac-n-cheese, green beans; and for dessert Dutch Apple Crumb pie) we listened to the A+ recording on YouTube of the concert in Buffalo from late last month. The food was ready by the second verse of Carpet Crawlers. (Nearly) perfect timing. What a wonderful Christmas it was 🎄

Merry Christmas to all! As for the airing of grievences, I just found out that the train we were supposed to take from New Orleans to Washington, DC in January, complete with private sleeper car, has been canceled due to . . . Yep, Covid. In the immortal words of Don Henley and the Eagles “The way I feel right now it’s gonna be a Funky New Year.”

Superb audio recording just posted on YT of the Buffalo show. Best recording I’ve heard of any show from the tour.

My memory may be playing tricks but I seem to recall from one of the old forums that there were regular updates about activity at The Farm with pictures of them cataloguing the sound board cassette tapes.

And there were definitely statements about how well things were progressing, likelihood of release, etc.

I was surprised at the time because I realised how reluctant they had been previously to get involved with this sort of thing.

I just found this article which may (or may not) clear up the question of whether the talk of the board tapes being released came from within the band’s inner circle. It’s a very long piece and I’m busy with work at the moment and gave it a quick skim. Early in the article there is some suggestion that at least preliminary work was under way on such a project.

Well, the main reason is that they don't like re-issues at all. We have been in touch with the management for years trying to lobby our interests for several projects, also the baord tapes. Truth is that all three of them are not fans of rereleasing stuff again and again and are also very picky about quality (board tapes etc).

Even something like When In Rome hasn't been made available on Blu-ray yet.

Nevertheless, I am sure we can expect something in the years tio come, but just don't expect something like Pink Floyd does.

I can appreciate the band’s perspective on board tapes. I find many of them to be less appealing than audience bootlegs. I’m a huge fan of the 1982 tour and I can say that my least favorite recording from that tour by far is the soundboard from Saratoga Springs. It sounds like it was recorded in an empty basement with faint audience noise piped in.

    Mercy Street

    Red Rain

Excellent Birds (This is the Picture).

I have a weird reaction now to Sledgehammer. As much as some like to think of PG as being “above” commercialism the fact is he clearly appreciated that it was a big hit and tried to replicate it in theme and music (rather blatantly IMO) on the next album with Steam and Kiss That Frog.

I don't really listen to them at all, I tend to listen to my 6 compilation discs or YouTube recordings. If I listen to whole albums it'll be The Lamb, Abacab or Nursery Cryme.

I’ve gotten to that point as well. For me I tend to listen more to individual songs rather than entire albums. It’s not an exaggeration to say that hardly a day has gone by over the last 40 years where I haven’t listened to all or part of Supper’s Ready (if only part it’s the section from A in 9/8 thru the end). I also listen quite often to Cinema Show/AOP, The Musical Box, FoF, Entangled/Squonk, and Dodo-Lurker/Abacab (live). When I used to listen to entire albums more frequently I favored ATOTT, SEBTP, TLLDOB, TSL, Seconds Out (great track list but horrible production courtesy of Dave “I take all the sharp edges off of every song” Hentschel), and Abacab.
