John Wetton tribute gig

  • There's a tribute concert for John Wetton on Thursday 3rd August, at Trading Boundaries in East Sussex, where Hackett occasionally plays. The concert is a private event for invited guests only but it'll be live streamed and tickets for the streaming are on sale now.

The event is organised by John Wetton's family and friends, and all funds raised will be donated to the Macmillan Caring Locally charity, to fund a room in John's name at the Macmillan Unit, Christchurch Hospital in Dorset, where he was cared for in his final days.

    The line-up includes:

    Steve Hackett

    Rick Wakeman

    Phil Manzanera

    Guy Pratt

    Geoff Downes

    Roger Chapman

    Mel Collins

    Roger Dean

    Chris Difford

    Annie Haslem

    and surprise guests.

The tickets for the live streaming cost £20 at the moment, £30 from 10-30 July and £40 after that, so now is a good time to buy if you're interested.

There's a brief promo video here which gives the link to tickets on the TBs site, currently saying the 'early bird' tix are still available.

    Abandon all reason

  • Annie Haslem

Actually, that should be "Haslam." Anyway, for those who don't know, John Wetton was briefly a member of Annie's band Renaissance. This was during 1971-72, a period of many changes for the band but no known live recordings. I've seen a picture of a band lineup with Wetton, though (probably no longer online). Much later he would work with Annie again in various contexts, including a guest appearance on the most recent Renaissance album.

    And now you know.
