AlanD posted the thread Potential Life-Changing Moments That Slipped Away.
The various posts this week on 'The Chamber of 32 Doors' led to me pondering on those moments in life when which virtual door you go through (decision-wise) does or doesn't have a profound effect on your life. We all have these moments and opportunities, whether we take them or not at the time. This is one of mine that probably would've undoubtedly changed my life path...

I agree to a point, I think the verses are musically quite unremarkable, breaking it down, I believe that if he hadn't come up with something brilliant after that, this wouldn't have been a good enough song to be on a Genesis album, he did though, both bridges and chorus elevate it considerably and the chorus, bordering on catchy releases the tension created by the bridges, in a way it's the same use of dynamics and contrasts as in Supper's Ready where you have stuff like Willow Farm…

This is a song that it took me a while to "get". But, it's a 15 for me now.
Unusual song structure in that the musical climax of the song is in the introduction. And then, the song ends incredibly simply, with a single piano chord. Peter Gabriel's vocal is so incredibly emotional; I love it.

Agreed, it is very much just "doing the job" of telling the story for me, but never really takes flight. It starts, then it stops again, then it starts, etc.

Anyone going to one of the UK shows? I might by in London at the time and consider going. They seem to perform on top level, from what I have seen and read,.
