Have seen a few mentions of him being in the tour programme now. What's the deal do we reckon? Is he first reserve, so to speak, should Darryl have to go back to see his wife ?

That could be the case, yes. A lot of positions in the crew have backups as well.

My aging memory tells me he did a good job in the CAS tour. I think he tackled the FoF solo and gave a pretty good account of himself. (Someone correct me if I’m wrong, memory loss is a bummer.)
Obviously, in the nicest possible way we all hope he isn’t needed, assuming all remains well with Mrs Stuermer. -

That guitar solo most definitely isn't though.
-
Indeed, just play the tune, how hard can it be?
-
Well, I like that solo too (very much in fact...).
Less "pyrotechnic" than the 1992-2007 one. And being a Jazz musician, I like when it's improvised (Anthony seemed to play differently each time, as Daryl did in 1981).
Here for example :

By the way, I also like the way Daryl plays it for the current tour.

He's the stand in. I sent Daryl some well wishes on his FB account.
-
To the band's credit, they've always allowed their touring guitarists some room to put their own stamp on the solo and have never directed them to precisely replicate the original.
I like Anthony Drennan's version.
Yes, it strays from the original - just as Daryl's does - but it remains within the musical boundaries of the song. At no point does he drift completely into uncharted territory.
-
Fair enough- I was being a bit tongue in cheek and that doesn’t come across in text. I like jazz and improvisation. It’s a good solo but personally I would have preferred him to come back to main theme a little bit more and play around it. But credit to him. I hope Daryl’s wife is ok and he doesn’t need to go home but I’m sure Anthony would do a fine job

Anthony is a great guitarist. In Milwaukee 2 years ago when Mike and Mechanics came though, Daryl opened up for him and during Turn it on Again - Mike, Anthony, and Daryl played it together. It was a great moment.

What a treat !

This video should not exist, where is Thanos when you need him.

What a treat !
I told my wife - That's 2 1/2 members of Genesis right there! Forgot how I got the math at that time.
But they were all in a row, and it was awesome.

🤦♂️
Doh!
WHY OH WHY didn't I stick to my plan and stay off this board?! I'm not even particularly interested in Drennan yet I came lumbering into this thread. Gaaaaaah!
-
Well, I don't know if I shall try to comfort you in any way by telling you anything that might lower your expectations - or the contrary (I watched a video, so now I know)...
I forgot to put spoilers, but since it's in the "Last Domino Tour" section...
This forum is very tempting nowadays, it's understandable...
Excuse me, I didn't follow the rules.

Excuse me, I didn't follow the rules.
Yes but my point is that I knew that would happen, so resolved to stay away then promptly broke that resolution. And of all the threads in which to stumble across a spoiler - Anthony Drennan. FFS!
Chuckling now at the notion that, one track at a time, I'll blunder into discovering the entire set by the time I get to my first gig.
Anyway, Anthony Drennan, on standby and stuff.

All I’m going to say is that For Absent Friends was a brave choice and I think it came across quite well.
