I enjoyed Dark a lot. Very intricate storytelling, well acted, well produced. Waiting on the third season of The Rain now. Also started another show called The Woods which has a similar brooding atmosphere to Dark and The Rain (and is in German I think) - the biggest difference I see is no supernatural/sci fi element... Yet!

Third season of The Rain. Strange, it's total fiction that was obviously conceived and created before the pandemic but I find the lines between the apocalyptic world in the show and reality are kind of blurred a little right now. The two entities are closer to each other than they ever would have been if we still lived in the old world.

Thoroughly enjoyed season 2 but season 1 just shades it.
Caught snippets of episodes of Inspector Morse being re-shown on a Freeview channel. I didn't watch it back in the day. I don't think it can have aged well, and there's some rotten wooden acting and terrible clunky dialogue. On a similar note, the usually excellent Talking Pictures channel has been re-showing Budgie. There's one for the teenagers! I got 40 minutes into the first episode and had to gve up, it was so bad.That said, when they showed Callan last year I found it stood up pretty well. Similarly a mid-70s drama series Rooms. They're also currently re-running the original Van Der Walk but I haven't seen enough to get an idea of how well it plays now.
I've been going through some Tennant-era Doctor Who on the iplayer, partly prompted by reading Russel T Davies's book The Writer's Tale, which is largely his correspondence with journalist Benjamin Cook about the writing and running of the show from the Voyage of the Damned xmas special (the one with Kylie Minogue) onwards up to DT's departure. It could've used some editing, but some of the stories are interesting for a Dr Who fan. I especially liked RTD's determination to have a Dr Who/Star Trek cross-over special.His plan was for the Tardis to materialise on the deck of the Enterprise and in fighting some sort of threat, the Doctor's chaotic informality would clash with Starfleet's straight-backed orderliness. It would've meshed with the then current franchise, which was the somewhat drab Enterprise. RTD was seriously pursuing it but then news of Enterprise's cancellation broke and that was that.
There was also a plan to build an episode around JK Rowling as herself but thankfully that didn't come about either - not that I have anything against her, I just thought it sounded a poor idea.
I stumbled across an episode of Budgie recently too, same channel I think, the episode where Budgie tries to sell a pile of pornographic books to an ex-teacher. Didn't stick with it.
However, I did stumble across Public Eye with the excellent Alfred Burke a few months back. It was one from around 1971, though the series stumbled from black and white to colour, (and briefly back again due to a technicians strike), during it's near decade run. Although the production values were a bit hit-and-miss (painted outdoor scenery etc) the stories were excellent, and not always "good guy wins" for his character did end up in jail at one point, and has trouble rehabilitating on getting out.
Not currently broadcast, but available on DVD as "A Box Named Frank" which contains all surviving episodes, only 5 episodes of the first 3 series as ATV recorded over them!

Hanna or TPB? I've never seen the former film. The TV series isn't particularly fast, more atmospheric. Especially the first season which I really liked. There are several TPB films but they all share the same style.

Yes I watched a few last year and thought they stood up quite well. I liked the shabby unglamorous atmosphere and setting - I loved a scene where he was listlessly hanging cheap paper xmas decorations in his drab little office. I agree the stories were often a bit ambiguous and even unresolved, but that it worked.

Just finished season 1 of Treadstone. Loved it and then discovered it has been cancelled. How can sh*t like Real Housewives and Kardashian which are mind numbingly dull get multiple seasons while an on the seat if your pants well acted show get canned after 1 season? I guess the dumbed down audiences simply want paint drying fake reality crap than anything of quality?

I just read up on it. The reason given for cancelling is low ratings that declined further as the series progressed along with lukewarm critical reception. It also said that USA Network is "moving away from scripted to live unscripted broadcast". I gather that the season closed so as to set up a season 2 that obviously now won't happen.
We don’t watch a lot during summer time, but when it rains or it’s too cold, we always throw in a bit of modern family.

This is the first of the Thames episodes, which have all survived. Only 5 of the first 3 series are known to exist, so little point in showing them. Luckily, I now have the facility to record terrestrial TV and save it to the PC, so I can archive these!
Just started a series called White Lines on Netflix. Two shows in and really enjoying it. The club scenes bring me right back to being a twenty year old

Thanks for the tipoff. We have a 'set-top box' as they're called, although ours is on a shelf under the TV. We use it to record off the freeview channels. Inevitably I've got dozens of things I need to get through. I don't think I'll be recording all the Markers but will certainly watch a few.
