Peter Gabriel - Ovo: the lost solo version

  • Peter Gabriel - Ovo: the lost solo version

    Quote

Chappell is also preparing material for producer Stephen Hague, who is working on a revamped version of Ovo, with Gabriel singing all the songs, which is to be released later this year in the US as a genuine Gabriel solo record. A remix album, which will see people like Tricky and Trent Reznor having a go at various tracks from Up, is also expected in the shops towards the end of the year.

Is this one of those Gabriel things that is never likely to happen?

"She looks at me and gently smiles, as if she knew I'd ask her all the time..."

  • Thank you for the info guys - Peter seems to take on so many ideas/projects that he invariably cannot finish/complete them.

Can understand why Dan locked him in a cupboard during So!

"She looks at me and gently smiles, as if she knew I'd ask her all the time..."

  • It was the Nov 05 statement that most excited me at the time, that the album and tour would be very stripped-back with just him and a bassist and percussionist. I thought this sounded really intriguing.

    Sigh...

    Abandon all reason

I liked that as much as the one you posted about for Genesis recently. ^^

It's amazing how many false starts there have been - "amazing" in the sense of "frustrating".

Stepping out the back way, hoping nobody sees...

Really admire your dedication in recording every potentially hopeful sign (aka false dawn  ) over the past 18 years of Peter's endless tinkering!

It certainly drives home the message that most (albeit not all) good artists/bands produce their best work when they’re young & have the drive to experiment & prove themselves by creating music regularly.

  • indeed. On the other side Peter was alble to deliver when he restricted himself to a timeline and concept such as Scratch My Back.

So I assume someone has to lock him up somewhere again to get his new album done.

Probably he's not going to release such a restricted and one-dimensional thing as an album. After all those years it is likely to be a whole catalogue of music or rather something interactive with billions of bits and ideas and algorithms created by Peter and fellow artists that can be mixed or mingled in numberless variations - something foreshadowed once by XPlora.

  • Yes, I think I remember Mike Rutherford politely saying that Peter had got a bit sidetracked with the XPlora - Although I can't imagine that would put Peter off releasing an 'Xplora Plethora' edition at some point during the century - notice I didn't say which century...

At least we got as far as this by now: We can mix some of Peter's music ourselves:
