Does anyone know how they performed Fading Lights? Was it just the slow part with the vocals or did they perform any of the instrumental section?
just the intro part - up to the point where Phil would have headed over to the drums and then into cinema show

1st post, Generation X, Genesis live virgin! Going to Manchester on Friday.
The show looks great as you’d expect and it seems Phil is performing better than feared. Can’t wait to feel the atmosphere in the room.
Must admit I’m not enamoured with the set list. Seems to miss most of the ‘middle’ period (74-78), not even Los Endos! Had hoped for at leaste one curve ball like One For The Vine. Also not a fan of acoustic sets in stadium shows. I think acoustic sets are better in small/intimate environments.
Having seen Floyd (94) and Yes (countless) I’ll take what I can get though! Will report back on Manchester show. -
I'm still hoping that by some miracle, I can do a London show.

Like you, I’d like there to be more from the four-man period, but at this point I’ll take what I can get. It’s surprising how well some of the IT-era tracks work in a live setting. Domino in particular really takes off!
The acoustic set is really more “semi-acoustic” - sort of stripped down compared to the rest of the night - so don’t worry about it being swamped in an arena setting. -
its funny how the band are categorised by number in the line up. 7 of the first 9 numbers in the set, are give or take 40 years old, and yet put in the 'newish 'bracket 😄
The change in style and sound is so distinct when comparing the 3-4 line up

Good, because that's where the song takes a nose dive. Think the second part is awful.

Wait they played 'In That Quiet Earth'? I didn't see mention of this before. That's a cracking track! Was it the full piece leading into Afterglow or shortened?

Just the 10-15 secs segue into Afterglow - don't get too excited

So awesome to hear everyone’s stories from last night’s show. More memories will be created tonight too !

Thanks, well better than not at all!

The problem with the segue between fading Lights and Cinema Show is that it feels like a bad edit: there is no transition into it, just BANG. In my opinion, it felt clumsy.
There are other new 'junctions' between songs: only short musical phrases, but some are quite interesting.

Fading Lights would be a perfect finale for this tour. I wish they sung it at the end. Carpet Crawlers is good, but Fading Lights would be a better ending in my opinion.

It was very abrupt. I thought a few bars of the FL jam would build to a transition but WHAM!!!

A little summary about the tour start yesterday
Thanks Christian. Will be interesting to see if the 3 songs mentioned but not played get a run out at some stage

Never understood Carpet Crawlers as a finale, but maybe when you're there it works.

Does anyone know who the person is at the back of the stage with the guitar?
Can see in this clip on the left of the backing singers
From the videos posted online, he seems to be there all show with a guitar

I thought they only did Mama at the beginning of the tour and then dropped it because it was too difficult vocally for Phil.
That is correct (and Dreaming was played for all of them, except Foxboro). I saw it in Houston, and I don’t recall him struggling on it, but that was only show 2.
Mike usually was the guy who didn't want to play Suppers Ready especially in it's full form, but there was no way Phil could have got through A9/8 - he struggled enough with Home by the Sea in parts last night.
The recording I heard of them doing that part on the IT tour was really rough, so I can’t even imagine Phil singing. OTOH, if they could somehow segue in after 9/8, he might have been able to pull it off in a lower key. But I’m perfectly happy to listen to Seconds out or a live recording from 82.
