RIP Thread!!

  • In a sense her success in a couple of daft but popular films did overshadow that she indeed gave us some good-quality pop music in the earlier part of her career. Another very sad loss.

    Abandon all reason

  • Australia has now lost three of its best known singers in about 10 days - indigenous singer Archie Roach, Judith Durham & now ONJ two days after Judith.

My father knew her father, Bryn Newton-John, when both were working at the University of Newcastle (in Australia) briefly.

  • RIP Anne Heche :(

    Aged 53

Having suffered a severe car crash that resulted in a severe anoxic brain injury and burns as well, was put into a coma...

From recent stories she was a bit of a party animal and had an affair with Ellen DeGeneres...

Have a few films with her in, like Six Days, Seven Nights, Volcano, The Vanished, Wild Card and Armed Response.

    RIP!!!

  • She had more than an affair with DeGeneres. She was her partner for three years.

  • RIP...Josephine Tewson died aged 91

More for the British fans of British sitcoms working on the Two Ronnies and the Ronnie Barker shows, plus keeping up appearances

In fact for Brits our age, she was everywhere in our younger years! RIP

  • Very sad news about Anne Heche.

I think the reports of her being a "party animal" are misleading. She was an often troubled person who spoke about her mental health issues. The crash she died in was the 3rd of a sequence in quick succession and it was found she was under the influence of narcotics. Her car ended up in a house; thankfully no-one else died.

The De Generes relationship of course still gets attention but it was the one same-sex relationship she had, for about 3 years amid longer-term ones with men. To show how things have changed, before the premier of Volcano she was warned to not attend with DeGeneres. They did anyway, and were escorted from the auditorium. That was late 90s, and the relationship continued to have negative repercussions for her career for a while after. Just over 20 years ago, folks.

She had a varied career, mixing big Hollywood films with independents, TV shows and stage work on Broadway, winning a number of awards along the way.

    Abandon all reason

  • Yes, Josephine Tewson was indeed one of those figures who was part of the fabric of British entertainment. It always feels especially sad when someone like her is gone.

    Abandon all reason

  • Indeed, very sad, and she did problems, many and varied.

Rather disturbed by the claims of oxygen starvation causing brain damage, and yet she is seen sitting up and reaching out on the stretcher just before being put in the ambulance. I'm not prone to believing conspiracy theories, but this does seem a little in the realm of aquarium dwellers.

  • Clarence, a little known sit com staring Ronnie Barker and Josephine Tewson is still one of our favourites. Gentle and unusual, don't think anyone else was in it.

  • Queen Elizabeth has died. May she rest in peace. I was born Canadian, but have always had an affection for the royal family. My mom was born a Brit, in 1938, which is probably where I get my love for the queen.

Thought it was appropriate to do a separate thread.
