Is there no-one who could suggest he sits down and tries to write something straightforward and undercooked, or a Virgin and the Gypsy type of track?
What are the most recent examples of this sort of track in his canon?
Meanwhile, in the non-Genesis music thread I posted this because I happened to be listening to it earlier. I wonder if it was a subconscious decision to cleanse my ears of the above bombast.

It is called that, and the photographer is Flip Ni something, all written at bottom of it!

That's the most unintentionally funny thing I've seen since Steve's comment in the notes of GENESIS REVISITED that "the definitive versions of these songs have yet to be heard until now."

I don't know what's going on really, but hearing that last track isolated made me wonder : "But what's the point of all this ? Does it even make sense ? Is it any good ?"
It sounds like Steve Hackett is thinking "Let's put everything I have in mind, every strange noise I found on any track and release it".
There's too much of everything to my ears (the production does not help in that aspect). It makes me think of Mike Rutherford's statement about Abacab when they worked on it back then : they were becoming "a caricature of themselves" and they decided to start fresh, with something completely different.
Maybe it's what Steve needs ? His own "Abacab" album ?

Interesting review. I still don't know quite what I'll think of the album but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to purchase it unless and until I've had opportunity to hear most or all of it. (Being able to hear all of SURRENDER OF SILENCE in advance definitely helped in my decision to get it.)

Great review. Very critical, but it's obvious the reviewer knows the album well and also Steve's catalogue. Will nevertheless check the album out as well.
